TORREY HONORS INSTITUTE BIOLA UNIVERSITY

Dear Prospective Applicant, Congratulations on your forthcoming graduation! As you are preparing to choose an educational path, you should be aware of Biola University’s outstanding honors program.

Torrey Honors Institute is:

A liberal arts program which partially fulfills the requirements for a four-year degree at Biola University.

Based on the Oxford tutorial model with faculty who not only lead discussion through probing questions, but are involved with their students in shared inquiry and discovery.

An intimate program which allows you to take most of your general education courses, including the thirty units of Bible required by Biola, in an integrated format.

Additional information is available on our website at http://www.torreyhonors.com

Your academic record places you in an enviable position. Most institutions would be honored to have you enroll, and many will offer substantial scholarships, not only to reward you for your work, but also to impact your college choice. In fact, it is likely that you will qualify for an academic scholarship at Biola. Scholarships are important and, for many students, essential. But your college choice should involve more than simply selecting the “highest bidder.” Perhaps you are the type of student who is seeking a unique educational experience filled with intellectual stimulation, development of community, close faculty relationships, and opportunities for growth.

rrey Honors Institut e exists for the formation of biblically centered intellectual leadership for the next generation. Obviously, Torrey is not for everyone, and, in fact, is only open to a select few. If you are looking for a conservatively Christian, world-transforming, classical educational experience, I encourage you to closely examine the enclosed materials. Phillip E. Johnson, U.C. Berkeley law professor, in his book Defeating Darwinism by Opening Minds called the Torrey Honors Institute a model for preparing students to meet the challenges of naturalism and for “developing confidence in the intellectual strength of theism.” If you want to join us in changing the world for Jesus Christ, Torrey Honors is the place for you. I encourage you to apply to the program by the March first deadline. If you have any questions, please call the Torrey office directly at (562) 906-4555. I look forward to helping you shape your university experience!

Sincerely,

John Mark Reynolds, Ph.D. Director, Torrey Honors Institute Biola University
