OUR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS AT HOME

MARCHING BANDOn the 25th of December (Christmas Day), the Keika Girls’ marching band competed in a competition at the Esforta Arena in Hachioji. They won 1st prize in the small marching band division.

A big congratulations to the girls in the marching band! We are very proud of all their hard work. Also, a special thank you to Ms. Yamaguchi, Ms. Tanaka, and Mr. Chou who supported the girls on the day.

CHRISTMASChristmas is always such a fun time of the year back home. There’s a lot of snow to play in, and our house is so warm and cozy with all the Christmas decorations. On Christmas Eve everyone in my family opens up gift. We always get a pair of PJ’s. Once we’ve put on our new PJ's we watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The next morning we open the rest of our presents, and in the evening we have a special meal with turkey and all the fixings.

NEW YEARSOn New Year’s Eve I normally have a party with friends, and we ring in the New Year together. Often we will watch the ball drop in NYC on TV. Because we have been up late the night before, we often spend New Year's relaxing at home.

CHRISTMASIn Australia, I usually spend Christmas with my family. Christmas in Australia is in summer so Aussies like to spend Christmas day outdoors. Usually, my family will have a Christmas picnic lunch by the lake. Every year we eat roast ham and my mum likes to cook the ham with big slices of pineapple. We also eat a lot of fresh seafood because the weather is very hot. My favourite thing to eat at Christmas is a big bowl of fresh prawns with aioli.

NEW YEARSOn New Year’s Eve, I usually go to a party with my friends and we watch the fireworks during the midnight countdown. Then on New Year’s Day, we have a BBQ at home or go to the beach for the day.

OUR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S IN JAPANCHRISTMASThis year I invited friends over to my house on Christmas Eve to have dinner together and watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. It was a lot of fun! On Christmas Day I flew to Osaka with a friend.

NEW YEARSOn New Year’s Eve I went to my friend’s house and ate ozoni for the first time. It was delicious! On New Year’s Day I went to Yushima and Nezu Shrine for Hatsumode. There were so many people, but it was a lot of fun.

CHRISTMASThis year was my first Christmas and New Year’s in Tokyo. On Christmas, I went to my favourite vegan ramen place with some friends. Then we caught a train to Yokohama to go to a café for dessert. I ate a cute cupcake that looked like a reindeer! Afterwards, we went to the Christmas markets at the Red Brick Warehouse. We wanted to go ice-skating but the line was too long. Hopefully I’ll be able to go ice-skating next Christmas!

NEW YEARSOn New Year’s Eve, I had dinner with my friends in Shibuya. After dinner, we went to the Shibuya crossing for the midnight countdown. It was fun but it was very crowded. On New Year’s Day, I just relaxed at home.

It is very popular in Australia and Canada to make a New Year’s resolution at the beginning of every year. A New Year’s resolution is a promise that we make to ourselves to do something that will make our year happier and better than the previous year. Do you have a New Year’s resolution?

We asked the English teachers what their New Year’s resolutions are for 2017 and this is what they said:

Miss Justine: My New Year’s resolution is to pass the N3 level Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

Miss Morgan: My New Year’s resolution is to read more books.

Miss Crystal: My New Year’s resolution is to fill my temple stamp book (御朱印帖).

Mr. Morikawa: My New Year’s resolution is to stay positive.

Ms. Kasuya: My New Year’s resolution is to go to France this year.

Mr. Kozakai: My New Year’s resolution is to study English more.

Ms. Aoki: My New Year’s resolution is to exercise more and improve my English.

Ms. Suda: My New Year’s resolution is to be a good mother.

Mr. Takaoka: My New Year’s resolution is to finish my work quicker so that I can leave by 4pm every day.

Ms. Ueshima: My New Year’s resolution is to study English very hard.

Mr. Ohzono: My New Year’s resolution is to lead a more fulfilling life.

Morgan’s AdventuresDuring the winter holidays, I did many things. For Christmas I went to Osaka. In Osaka, I went to the aquarium, Universal Studios Japan, and Osaka Castle.

I also went to Kawaguchiko. It was a little cold there, but it was so beautiful. We went to Chureito Pagoda, the Herb Hall, and walked around the lake. It was a relaxing day trip.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was so magical!

The aquarium was so big! There were so many interesting things to see.

A beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from Chureito Pagoda

Justine’s Adventures

FUJIYOSHIDAI went on a trip by myself to Fujiyoshida to relax and recharge before the New Year. I stayed there for four days and while I was there, I climbed Mt. Shakushi. The hike was a bit difficult but it was really fun. At the top, there was an amazing view of Mt. Fuji.

During the winter vacation, I wanted to travel outside of Tokyo.I went to 2 places: Fujiyoshida and Hakone.

HAKONEI went to Hakone for three days with my two best friends. We went to many places such as the Hakone Open Museum and various onsens but our favourite place was Owakudani. Owakudani is a famous tourist place where you can eat hard-boiled eggs that are cooked in the Owakudani hot springs. These eggs have black shells and eating one is said to add seven years to your life.
