Only two jobs in thirty eight years, how many can say that? Darrell Ward, Oklahoma City Parts Manager has worked for UPT since May 1994. He came to us from our friends at Southwest Trailers where he previously spent 17 years as a trailer mechanic. As the old saying goes “history repeats itself ” holds true for Darrel, as he once again is reporting to Mike Steward who hired him back 1994. He has enjoyed how “his office” has grown from a small two bay shop to a large, 3 drive-through bays and a spacious parts room. Darrel lives in Deer Creek Oklahoma where he spends his spare time tinkering with old cars. While many know him, most do not realize his love for muscle cars. How many do you think he has? Your guess is as good as any since he won’t fess up to the actual number. His father spent 25 years in the Air Force which afforded him the opportunity to see much of the world with time in Switzerland, Holland, Australia and Tahiti, just to name a few. During this time, he lived only 1/8th of a mile from the Berlin Wall. When the opportunity arises he loves to fish and drive jeeps in Colorado. Next time you talk to Darrel, see if you can determine how many muscle cars he has refurbished.

On Sunday, April 12th the Prices; Greg, Matthew and David , along with Tim Rains, Robert Moore, Joe Nation, Lisa Lam, Kaleb Robinson, Scott Hoover, Ron Holte, Kevin Deeds, David Keegan, and Scott Hunt traveled to Magnolia, AR to transition our newest piece of business from Service Line, Inc. to United Petroleum Transports. SAFETY!Think

Robert Moore VP Risk Managment

As we enter the spring season, the Risk Management Department is again rolling out our Safety: Back to Basics courses. We’ve already completed classes in Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Wichita, KS; among others. The courses are designed to provide our team of professional drivers with crucial safety and compliance information. So far, the feedback we’ve received has been positive. A primary topic in these meetings is the revised Driver Safety Manual. Although not yet complete, the Risk Management Department has completely retooled the former Driver Process Manual into a more robust and user-friendly manual. Primary changes to the manual include: • Revised career path. • Changes to our CST and driver training programs. • Implementation of a personal protective equipment program. The manual should be completed by May 1st of this year. Once complete, Risk Management will forward copies to all staff and professional drivers for review. I encourage each of you review the revised manual in detail and get back to the Risk Management Department any necessary changes or additions. As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for all you do on a daily basis and please have a safe year!

As part of our affiliate relationship with Quality Carriers (QC), UPT will operate this business in coordination with QC. The Magnolia facility consists of a Customer Service Center, a shop and an external tank wash, supporting primarily Albemarle, a leader in the bromine and lithium industries. Bromine (Br), atomic number (35) is a halogen and is used in many applications, such as flame retardants, gasoline additives, pesticides, etc. I think this is a good place to end my chemistry lecture, but do Google bromine to learn its very interesting history and other uses. It is fairly rare and you won’t find much of it in the USA, outside of Columbia and Union counties in Arkansas.

In addition to the transportation of bromine, this facility also supports several of our existing customers, including Calumet and Nexeo. Between our Shreveport ops team and our sales team, we have developed strong relationships with both of these customers, which make this a great fit for the organizations. This addition will also drive additional density into our Chemical segment to provide additional capacity solutions for our customers, not to mention providing more business opportunities for our professional drivers. A special thank you goes out to James Watson’s brother John who did a great job manning his impressive grill/trailer during our visit! I have seen some pretty ingenious BBQ trailers in my travels, but John is a competitive BBQ’r and his grilling rig proved that. We sincerely thank everyone in Magnolia and throughout our UPT network that supported and made this successful transition. As always, our primary vision and mission remains focused on seamless delivery and safe choices.

With incredible weather and increased spectator participation, the Louisiana Truck Driving Championships were a resounding success

for Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA). The competition consisted of three main events; written test, pre-trip and road course. The competition is a two day event ending in the awards banquet on Saturday night. Ron Holte, Shreveport CSC Manager, was fortunate to participate as an announcer for sequence one of the road course obstacle. The written test comprised of 50 questions with14 defects in the pre-trip, which drivers had 8 minutes to discover. Two defects which stood out, to Holte was the out of service tag and an I.E.D (a yes, bomb!) planted under the trailer. Both UPT professional drivers; Certified Safety Trainer James Jesse and Donnie Webb did an awesome job each receiving honorable mention. Holte said “Three things the Price family heritage instills in us were very apparent throughout the event; Safety, Family and Seamless. The Shreveport team was very thankful for the opportunity to represent UPT and we encourage all our peers to participate at their local state sponsored event.”

With more than three decades in the industry, and 18 years with United Petroleum Transports, it is with a heavy heart we announce the retirement of Tony Reyes, CSC Manager in El Paso. Tony joined UPT when we acquired Oil Transport in 1997 and has served diligently in several capacities over the years, most recently as Western Regional Manager and CSC Manager in El Paso. We will miss Tony and his wealth of knowledge and experience, but we wish he and his wife, Gloria, great happiness, health, and excitement as they take on the adventure of retirement. I know they both look forward to spending more time with the grandchildren. Please join us in thanking Tony for his tremendous service to UPT and

successful career.

Filling Tony’s shoes will not be an easy task, but Jeff Williams is onboard and ready to do his best. Jeff comes to us from Ruan Logistics in Roswell, NM, where he served as the Center Manager. Jeff graduated from Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science/ Business. Jeff and his wife Margarita have two childern; Emily is a graduate of Texas Tech and lives in Austin and Carolyn is attending New Mexico State in Las Cruces, NM. Jeff enjoys officiating High School baskeball and playing golf.

Congratulations to Miss Ernestine Isabel Saenz, daughter of Marta Manning CSR from our El Paso center. She was recently selected for the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence. This prestigious award is for outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of science and technology. She is in the 10th grade attending America’s High School. Her goals are to study Mechanical Engineering and Business Management. She is keeping her collage plans open; however, it won’t be long before her mailbox is filling up with prospective offers.

SUN CITY, AZ - Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies worked an accident where two people were fighting for life after their car collided with a guardrail and caught fire, trapping the man and woman inside. Deputies said both victims, in their 20s, had to be extricated and were airlifted to an area hospital in extremely critical condition. First person to arrive on the scene was Phoenix Professional Driver Steve Shover. He and another passerby tried to get the two injured people out of the car with no luck. Continuing to use fire extinguishers to help keep the flames down, Steve even had the hair burned off of his legs and arm from being so close. However he continued using his fire extinguisher keeping flames at bay until the emergency crews arrived.

You have one heck of a guy on your [UPT] team. I work for AllStar Fuel/Fred Garrison Oil Company. I was traveling to Lubbock early morning on Thursday the 8th, and had a flat tire. I didn’t have my flashlight and it was a cold 19 degrees outside. I already called a tire service to come help me, but in the meantime Ronnie Shults [UPT Grand Master of Odessa] pulled up at the Exxon station and came right over to me. I deal with drivers on a daily basis and I must tell you, Ronnie went above and beyond his call of duty that cold morning. He stayed outside with me until the tire service showed up and even gave me a flashlight for my car. He was super nice and I felt really good about having someone like him there with me. He stayed with me the entire time, didn’t start dropping his load until I started to leave. I don’t know if you guys have a driver of the month or a special award or a newsletter, but I really think Ronnie deserves some recognition for what he did for me. Some people say—anyone would have done that. Well, that is just not the truth. Several people passed me right up not even giving me a second glance. It is very important for you to know that he is a real asset. I really appreciate him and what he stands for. He is truly a special kind of person. He makes me want to be a better person. Therefore, I have donated $ 250.00 to the San Angelo Animal Shelter in his name.PS. He may need a new flashlight, as he gave his to me!Rhonda, Allstar Fuel
