WWCGP WEEKEND EVENTS 

Race Registration and Number Pick-up – Friday, May 4, 2018 

LOCATION: Parish Hall, 109 Main Street, Phoenicia, NY (parking off Mt. Ave Maria Drive) TIME: 2:00pm – 3:00pm 

Registration and number pick-up for all races will be available. Cash or Check Only! Must have USA Cycling License on person (USA Cycling App or picture acceptable). Pre-registration is available online using www.bikereg.com/wwcgp. ITT registration increases $10, RR and Omnium increases $15 after pre-registration closes. 

One Day Licenses can be purchased by Cat 5 racers at the race (cash only) or in advance at: https://www.usacycling.org/events/ Find WWCGP on their race calendar and click "Purchase One Day License". PLEASE NOTE: A One Day License will be required for each day of racing (If you are racing the ITT and the RR you will need a license for EACH day). 

Individual Time Trial (ITT) – Friday, May 4, 2018

THERE WILL BE TWO SEPARATE TIME TRIALS: ITT CATEGORY & ITT OPEN

ITT START LISTS: Start lists will be posted on 5/3/18 for all pre-registered racers. Racers will be grouped by category. Day of registrations will be grouped by category if possible. Category races will include ITT Only and Omnium participants. ITT OPEN race will consist of uncategorized participants. 

ITT BIKE RESTRICTIONS: Mass start legal road bikes ONLY for all ITT CATEGORY RACES. No clip-on aerobars will be allowed. ITT OPEN race is not part of the Omnium and ITT OPEN riders are not restricted to riding mass start road bikes; time trial bikes, aero-bars, triathlon-legal bikes, etc are welcome. Disc wheels and aero helmets allowed in all races. 

Individual Time Trial (ITT) Awards – Friday, May 4, 2018  

ITT awards will be presented immediately following the conclusion of the race. Awards based on results of ITT Only Category Racers and Omnium Racers combined. ITT OPEN racers (uncategorized) will be awarded separately. Omnium participants will be awarded points for ITT towards Omnium General Classification (See below for more information on points system).

Community Dinner – Friday, May 4, 2018 

LOCATION: Woodstock Fire Department, 242 Tinker Street, Woodstock, NY TIME: 6:30pm - 8:00pm 

Please join Team WWCGP and your fellow racers for a Community Dinner. Cash or Check Only! $10 for registered racers, $14 per person for general public. $16.50 at door. 110 person limit.  RSVP suggested: Email [email protected] with “Community Dinner” in the subject line. 

Road Race (RR) – Saturday, May 5, 2018 Day of Race Registration and Number Pick-up 

ALL Omnium Racers MUST sign in on Saturday morning. 

LOCATION: Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road, Woodstock, NY TIME: 6:30am – 7:30am

WAIVERS: All riders MUST complete a NYSDOT race waiver in order to race, as well as a USA Cycling waiver. No signature, no race! 

The race director reserves the right to change, shorten or cancel the event due to weather, road conditions, or time constraints.  

CENTERLINE RULE: USAC 3B1 “centerline rule” is in effect and will be STRICTLY ENFORCED. You have to stay to the right of the centerline (if the centerline is comprised of a double line, you must stay to the right of both lines). Riders failing to obey “centerline rule” may be relegated or disqualified at the discretion of the Chief Referee. 

RACE NUMBERS: Two race numbers will be provided. (Pro 1/2/3, 45+ and 55+ RED & Cat 4/5 GREEN) Numbers must be pinned on the back LEFT & RIGHT of rider’s jersey (see image below). 

Omnium racers will use the SAME numbers for ITT and RR.

WWCGP RIDER PARKING: Mountain View Parking Lot, 15 Rock City Road, Woodstock, NY Outdoor restrooms will be available at race parking. 

RR FEED ZONES:  1st Feed Zone (mile 23.8): 1 West Saugerties Woodstock Rd, Saugerties, NY Pro 1/2, 3, 45+, 55+, AND Cat 4/5 

2nd Feed Zone (mile 35.5): NY-212 & Eighmey Rd, Willow, NY Pro 1/2, 3, 45+, 55+ ONLY 

Feed Zones will be clearly marked. Signage will indicate: “3 km to Feed Zone”, “Feed Zone Begins”, “Feed Zone Ends”. See the maps below for feed zone location. Always feed from the right side of the road. NEVER FEED FROM THE LEFT. The zone will be clearly marked with signage. Athletes should let their feed crew know that a limited amount of parking will be available before and after the feed zone. Do not park your car inside the feed zone. Always ensure your vehicle is completely off the road when parking along the course. NOTE: You are racing on some of the most scenic roads in the Northeast. Please do your best to keep them pristine and open to racing. No littering. Dispose of trash in Feed Zones ONLY. 

SIGNAGE: All courses will be clearly marked. (RACER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THE COURSE) All yellow signs with arrows indicate shared course for both races.  

At mile 31 race courses DIVERGE at ROUTE 212 & Wittenberg Rd. Signage will indicate Red for Pro 1/2/3 RIGHT TURN and Green for Cat 4/5 LEFT TURN 

RACE SUPPORT: The Pro 1/2, Cat 3, 45+, and 55+ race will have Neutral Support provided by LOOK/SRAM and Overlook Mountain Bicycles. The Neutral Support vehicle will follow the race leaders. A second neutral support car will support other riders in contention. 

The Cat 4/5 race will have a Neutral Support provided by Mark Wysocki. The Neutral Support vehicle will follow the race leaders. A second neutral support car will support other riders in contention. 

Mechanical support will be available in the parking lot on the morning of the race. 

Race Caravan Follow Cars will display identifiable windshield signs (see Race Caravan Schematic on following page). 

CUT-OFF: Please be advised that any racers who have not made the turn onto Meads Mountain Road by 10:00 am will be directed back to the Community Center. Racers instructed to stop racing at this point should proceed cautiously back to the Community Center making sure to not interfere with any other racers on the road. Bib numbers will be noted and given to officials to make sure all racers are accounted for. This Cut-Off Protocol has been established by local authorities and the race director for safety reasons. The Cut-Off Protocol will allow trailing law enforcement and medical support vehicles in the race caravan to stay closer to more of the racers and thereby provide a safer race environment. If racers miss the cut-off and wish to continue along the race route they must stop, remove their bib number, and receive instructions from race staff at the Meads Mountain Road, Rock City Road intersection before proceeding.

Voluntary abandonment: Racers who voluntarily abandon the race are responsible for notifying the event safety director and race officials. This is essential to ensure that all racers are accounted for. The event safety director will be at race headquarters: (845) 679-2422.

Road Race (RR) Course Notes 

Off-camber turn on Band Camp Road @ mile 17 

At mile 31 race courses DIVERGE at ROUTE 212 & Wittenberg Rd. Signage will indicate Red for Pro 1/2/3 RIGHT TURN and Green for Cat 4/5 LEFT TURN 

Safety Vests indicate a person who can assist. 

NON-MEDICAL RIDER PICK-UP: Those individuals with mechanical problems or otherwise, call Race Headquarters 845-679-2422 to request pick-up. You will need to provide exact address or landmarks. 

START LINE ASSEMBLY: All riders for the Pro 1/2/3 race must be assembled at the Starting Line @ 7:45am and all riders for the Cat 4/5 race must be assembled at the Starting Line @ 7:55am for Rules of the Day, given by USAC Chief Referee. Please enter Start Line on Rock City Rd via Mountain View Ln. NO riders will be allowed to join the start from the front.  

A warning bell will ring 3 times at 7:30, signaling 15 min warning for the Pro 1/2/3 race. A second bell will ring 5 times at 7:40, signaling a 5 min warning. There will be no bell for the Cat 4/5 riders, so they should prepare accordingly. 

 

Pro 1/2/3, 45+ and 55+ Road Race 

Start: Rock City Road, Saturday, May 5, 8:00am 

The Pro 1/2/3, 45+ and 55+ races feature a 62.1 mile course with 4,194 feet of cumulative elevation gain, and a high point of 1,795 feet. The QOMs are at mile 20.2, 26.1 and 57.2. The Sprint points come at mile 15.1 and 44.1 (See Omnium Points Competition below). Portions of course cover rough road, including a one mile gravel section; lightweight wheels and tires are not recommended. The recommended gearing is 39/28 for the Mead’s Mountain Road ascent. The yellow line rule is in effect for the entire course, meaning all riders must be right of the middle of the road at all times. Any riders riding left of the middle will risk being disqualified. A vehicle will be running pace ahead of the lead riders. There will also be a Neutral Support vehicle, with wheels, and a race referee following the lead group in a separate vehicle. Riders dropped by the lead group will be pulled out of contention, and passed by the support vehicle. Any riders pulled out of contention by the support vehicle must obey all rules of the road for the remainder of their ride. HELMETS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. 

NOTE: Neutral start finishes at mile 4.1. The Official Start is after the intersection at Zena Highwoods Road & Sawkill Road once you have crossed the bridge.

Category 4/5 Road Race Start: Rock City Road, Saturday, May 5, 8:10am 

The Cat 4/5 race features a 33.6 mile course with 2,327 feet of cumulative elevation gain, and a high point of 1,795 feet. The QOM competition is at mile 26.1 at the top of Mead’s Mountain. Portions of course cover rough road; lightweight wheels and tires are not recommended. The recommended gearing is 39/28 for the Mead’s Mountain Road ascent. The yellow line rule is in effect for the entire course, meaning all riders must be right of the middle of the road at all times. Any riders riding left of the middle will risk being disqualified. LOCATION: Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road, Woodstock, NY TIME: 11:30 am 

PURPOSE: Honor all Road Race and Omnium winners from each race category as they take their places on the podium as soon as results are confirmed by race officials. QOM and Sprint Jerseys will also be presented. Please dress in appropriate uniform/race attire for podium presentations. No sunglasses. No bikes. (See Prize descriptions with Jerseys below.) Racers MUST be present to receive awards. No prizes will be mailed.  

Food and vendors will be available at the Awards Ceremony! Raffle Tickets will be available for purchase to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ulster County.
