In other years, July 22nd, Feast of St. Mary Magdalene. Jesus told us the faithful will recognize his voice when he calls our names.(Jn 10-1-18) At the tomb, when Mary Magdalene heard Jesus call her name she did just that and cried out, “my teacher!” He told her, “Go, Proclaim to the others that, “I have seen the Lord.’” (Jn 20-17) She risked all and went! (John 20:17-18) Do I listen carefully

enough to hear Jesus call my name? Am I willing to Proclaim and bring Jesus’ presence to my friends, family, and communities? Dear St. Mary Magdalene please help me have the strength and courage to proclaim Jesus’ Resurrection and to be his presence in our world. Amen.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension, Every year, a missionary group is assigned to our parish and to every parish throughout the country. The purpose of the weekend is twofold. First, the weekend is meant to raise our consciousness about missionaries and their work. Secondly, the missionaries who come ask for our prayers and financial assistance. Next weekend, a sister from the Comboni Missionaries will speak at all of the masses about their missionary work. Saint Daniel Comboni, the first Bishop of Central Africa, founded the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus in 1867. Initially they were a fraternity of priests and brothers from across Europe doing mission work in Africa under the name of Institute for the African Missions. St. Daniel Comboni also founded a congregation of religious sisters, Comboni Missionary Sisters, an international missionary community founded in 1872. The Comboni Missionary Sisters are particularly committed to Evangelization, empowering women through formal and informal education, to train community leaders, and to accompany Church and Societal efforts on advocacy, social justice and dialogue. They serve in 34 countries in the world. The Comboni Missionaries care for the poor and abandoned people in any area of the world, which the Holy See entrusts to them. Their method of evangelizing is directed to the whole person through the preaching of the Gospel and the development of social and educational structures in cooperation with existing resources and in a spirit of service to the local Church. They are very active in the formation of religious and lay leaders in the fields of education, mass media, and, when needed, relief work and refugee assistance, especially in Africa. While the presentation next weekend will be made by a Comboni sister, every three years, the Missionary Cooperative Funds collected go to the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. The Propagation of the Faith helps to support these Comboni sisters as well as many other missionary groups. Next weekend, Sister Delia del Toro, a Comboni Missionary sister, will speak at all of the Masses. She will speak about her own personal experience as a missionary and about the work of the missions in general. We look forward to welcoming Sister Delia next weekend. There will be a second collection next weekend and it will be taken up for the Propagation of the Faith. I thank you in advance for your support. Peace, Fr. Kearney .

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión,

Cada año, un grupo misionero es asignado a nuestra parroquia y a cada parroquia a través del país. El propósito del fin de semana es doble. Primero, el fin de semana se supone hacernos conscientes acerca de los misioneros y si trabajo. Segundo, los misioneros que vienen piden nuestras oraciones y ayuda económica. El próximo fin de semana, una religiosa de los Misioneros Comboni hablará en todas las misas acerca de su trabajo misionero.

San Daniel Comboni, el primero obispo de África Central, fundó los Misioneros Comboni del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús en el 1867. Inicialmente era una fraternidad de sacerdotes y religiosos de a través de Europa haciendo trabajo misionero en África bajo el nombre de Instituto para las Misiones Africanas. San Daniel Comboni también fundó una congregación de hermanas religiosas, las Hermanas Misioneras Combonianas, una comunidad internacional misionera, fundada en el 1872. La Propagación de la Fe ayuda a sostener a estas hermanas Combonianas al igual que a muchos otros grupos misioneros.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA at Ascension is a faith-sharing group accompany-ing adults in their preparation for the reception of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. This process includes interac-tive discussions about the different aspects of the Catholic faith. If you are considering becoming a Catholic or are already baptized and would like to receive the sacraments of 1st Communion and/or Confirmation, the RCIA is the right place for you. Sacraments can be received at the Easter Vigil. RCIA meets every Tuesday night at 7 PM, beginning September 11th, 2018 in the Church rectory. The RCIA also welcomes all Catholics who received the Sacraments, and seek to revive their faith and share their views of the Catholic Church.
