SYSTEMS FOR SIGNALLING
Our values.

Our over 60-year-long history is something we are very proud of. It is the result
of our successes combined with our determination to be innovative, but more
importantly it is a great legacy of expertise to draw ideas and energies from,
which will help us look out to the future. It is the history of a small, yet lively
Italian company that started off in the railway industry and over the years has
grown into a Group capable of attracting other companies to its orbit and now
has operations all over the world, with 530 customers in 40 countries, which
makes us a reference for general contractors and railway networks worldwide.
Customers choose us because our history tells of a Group which has remained
consistent with its values, has placed people at the centre of its business and
has offered its customers the right solutions in the extremely complex scenario
of engineering and construction of railway infrastructures. The Group is also
sensitive to the future and has the capacity to efficiently combine tradition with
research, sustainability, and safety, which is reflected in its wide range of high
quality products and services.
History.
“We create history by our observation, rather than history creating us.”
Stephen Hawking

We offer our customers an ever more integrated service, including products and
services, in the field of railway, tramway and underground infrastructures. We are
a flexible and multi-technological partner that perfectly fits into the industrial
organization of our customers and capable of building the infrastructures
for railway mobility thanks to our high level of specialization in this industry.
Together with our customers, we identify optimised solutions for each situation,
starting from an analysis of the context together with the viable technological
options, then moving on to the identification of key variables. We can offer turn-
key solutions for each and every railway application, ranging from plants for
the manufacture of prestressed reinforced concrete sleepers and switch bearers
to the supply of prefab platforms, sleepers and switch bearers, from complete
systems for level crossings to electronic equipment.
A multitude of products.
“Offering a customized product or service is one of the most efficient ways to increase
customers’ engagement.”
Don Peppers

At WEGH Group, quality means the pursuit of excellence in each and every
business area where we operate. From the selection of suppliers and raw materials
to the work performed by employees and collaborators; from engineering to the
supply and commissioning of the plants, components and infrastructures, up to
maintenance and after-sale service: to guarantee utmost quality at every work
stage is the priority target WEGH Group has set for itself, even before setting
it for its customers. We believe that doing a high quality job is, most of all,
something we can be proud of at all times, and that quality, reliability, and the
ability to meet the customer’s expectations are extremely important values for
companies like ours that operate in such a complex and technological industry
as the railway sector.
Quality.
“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.”
Henry Ford

Innovation and research are part of the DNA of WEGH Group, which on average
invests 7% of its turnover in these areas. The railway sector is experiencing an
unprecedented technological renewal. In our two R&D labs in La Spezia and
Bergamo, respectively, we have teams of engineers constantly working to find
solutions for the continual improvement of the safety of railway traffic and track
quality.
The laboratory in La Spezia is a hub of excellence in electronic, mechanical and
electro-mechanical research, especially in the field of safety and signalling; the
laboratory in Bergamo is focused on railway tracks and infrastructures, with
special attention paid to innovative ballastless systems.
Although research often requires long-lasting processes to be implemented,
obstacles to be overcome, and very strict safety regulations to be met, we
believe that it eventually contributes to building the future of our group and
that of our customers.
R&D.
“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes,
and having fun.”
Mary Lou Cook

WEGH | Our values
Railway is a synonym of safety. Whether in rainfall, snow and fog, trains will
never be stopped from bringing people and goods to their destination in a safe
and comfortable way. Wagons travel from city to city at increasingly higher
speeds; in metropolitan areas dozens of trains travel at a very close distance
from one another trouble-free.
At WEGH Group, we are never fully satisfied with our achievements. This is
why in our daily work we try to further improve the safety of each device and
system in collaboration with both national and international bodies that are
designated to define the safety standards for railway traffic. This explains why
our comprehensive level crossing systems are by far the most widely used in
Italy and they are exported to many countries worldwide. Safety still is and will
be our utmost priority ever.
Safety.
“I devote my life to studying to improve everybody’s safety, to understand what the limits
of man are in tune with nature. To now such limits and to overcome them.”
Patrick De Gayardon

We are proud to realise that our work can contribute to saving our Planet whose
future is dangerously undermined. We know that travelling has always been one
of man’s wishes. Our commitment is to enable man to travel more often and
better by train, which is one of the greenest means of transport with the least
environmental footprint. How do we manage to do it? We use non-polluting
products, we plan material recycling, we develop solutions that require less
maintenance or avoid the use of hazardous products, such as using renewable
energy through solar panels to power entire level crossing systems. Our small
contribution to leave a more beautiful and enjoyable Planet for our children and
grand-children to live on.
Green.
“I think that having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful form of art that you could wish for.”
Andy Warhol

Level Crossing Systems.
page 24
The strong connection between WEGH Group and the level crossing protection
systems began in the middle 90s, when the barrier machine was introduced in
the Italian market.
Thousands units have been installed since then, with an availability of 98%
proven in field, and zero safety-related events.
In the process, WEGH Group developed the know-how of full systems.
Every step in development, design, testing and production
was taken in compliance with CEI-EN 50126, 50128 and 50129 European norms.

Modularity.Tuning solution to customer needs. The command & control cabin hosts all the
components to support the specific application required and interfaces with
one or more different entities according to customer’s use case chosen.
eLCSP (acronym for Electronic Level Crossing Safety & Protection) is a complete
safety and protection system for the level crossing area. The control logic is
managed by electronic components (PLC). The product is certified for a SIL4
safety level according to CEI-EN 50126, 50128 and 50129 European norms.

Supported configurations.Automatic.
The incoming and leaving trains are detected automatically; the safety core,
SIL4 certified, hosted in the command and control cabin, elaborates the
input signals of the train detection system and commands the activation and
liberations of the level crossing, without the intervention of a human operator.
Manual.
On a side of the command and control cabin a key closed frame hosts alarm
monitoring and buttons to allow human operator to command safetely
activations and liberation of the level crossing.
