SIRIUS is a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), that can be adapted to almost any real time process. It is a Windows based SCADA system.

The system is modular in design and expandable in stages, thereby resulting in protection of customer’s capital investment and extending the product life cycle. SIRIUS’s architecture and design enables it to be customized for various industry segments. The system’s core has been designed in such a way that any application can be supported by building a customized layer on top of the core. It provides a fault tolerant system by using its redundancy feature available at every level. SIRIUS has been put to use in mission critical applications in industry segments like Traction Power Monitoring and Control for Railways, HVDC Stations for Power Grid, Gas Pipelines for GAIL and Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution for various utilities.

SIRIUS’s Integrated Development Environment is an intuitive configuration software which makes it possible to convert an abstract automation idea to a fully engineered solution.

Man Machine Interface provides operator with an extremely user friendly, easy to navigate graphics package to monitor and control the process. SIRIUS also allows to program a project specific application using its own high level programming language.

Any type of process and management information report can be developed through Crystal reports or Microsoft Excel. For offline analysis & MIS requirements, SQL Server based historical database is provided.

RTU 6049-E70 is the latest generation in the HUSKY series Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) from SSS. Based on the experience of previous models, the RTU 6049-E70 has been redesigned to cater to different industry-specific needs in a modular and expandable fashion.

RTU complies with EMI/EMC (IEC61000-4-x) regulation specified by IEC standards. The RTU has been certified by NABL accredited laboratories for conformance to these standards. With a reduced footprint, the RTU requires lesser panel space. All I/O terminations are provided at the rear, for easy wiring and deployment.

Husky RTU is designed for automation system requiring high availability and easy maintainability. Its scalable architecture allows users to match their investment with different levels of expansion.

Features like redundant power supply, redundant CPUs and hot swapable I/O cards, field isolation ensure high availability of the system. A variety of I/O modules ensure that all type of field inputs and outputs can be interfaced with RTU.

The CPU and all I/O cards, each with their dedicated controllers, provide distributed processing power to the RTU. Implementation of data processing and buffering function at each I/O card ensure that the CPUs processor remains free for execution of other vital functions. Also, addition of more I/O cards has little impact on the CPU processing power.

With its multiple ports and support for large set of communication protocols, the RTU can communicate with any kind of IEDs like Numerical Relays, Event Recorders, Energy Meters, Governor Controllers, Temperature Scanners, Flow Computers etc.

HUSKY RTU is available as standard 19” rack configuration as well as DIN rail mountable mini version which supports limited I/O. Both versions have similar software functionality.

PowerHydro PowerSIRIUS SCADA system along with Husky RTU provides an integrated solution for control and monitoring of a hydro-power plant. Generating Units are auto-started through a step-by-step sequence complete with auto-synchronization of the unit with the grid. Husky RTU, in addition to providing hardwired signals, integrates various protection relays over IEC61850 or IEC 60870-5-103 and delivers a complete solution. A tripping in the plant is reported in SCADA system with millisecond resolution prvoided by Husky RTU. Reports on total power production, plant's electrical/mechanical parameters, CB tripping and Line tripping are generated automatically and on demand.

Solar PowerHusky RTU along with SIRIUS SCADA system provides an integrated solution for Control & Monitoring of Photovoltaic (PV) power plants. Husky RTU is used for Inverter Monitoring, Integration of Protection Relays, Energy Monitoring and Control & Monitoring of Switchyard and Auxiliary Systems. SIRIUS SCADA acquires data from RTU and provides complete view of the power plant.

Automatic Metering InfrastructureHusky RTU can be installed in the consumer locations and at various

substations for automatic collection of Meter Data from different make of Energy Meters (Class A, B & C) over DLMS protocol. Husky RTU acts as DCU (Data Concentrator Unit) that collects the data from various energy meters, stores and forwards it to central master station for processing by “AMR Server”. The master station converts the acquired data into standard “CDF” format, as per BIS, for further use by the utility.

Digital Signal ExchangeDSE is a special application which serves to replicate hard-wired signals at a remote location using high speed communication links, while maintaining the response times (~25ms) demanded by the application. DSE can be implemented in situations where Example uses of DSE are in replacing hard-wired signal cabling between two stations or for transmission of signal contacts to a remote location in real time.

Applications

Transmission & DistributionSIRIUS can monitor and control power transmission lines, including EHV, HV-AC, HVDC systems. Sequence of events recording, monitoring of analog parameters, generation of log sheets, etc. can be performed. Further, different makes/models of SERs, Disturbance recorders can be integrated into SIRIUS for a single point of monitoring/control access. SIRIUS can also act as a slave/master (Inter-Center Communication) for exchange of substation parameters in a hierarchical topology. With support for both proprietary and standard protocols (IEC 870-5, IEC 61850) SIRIUS can be employed in both old and modern substations.

Substation AutomationPower distribution substation consist of a number of incoming and outgoing feeders, transformers for stepping up/down the voltage levels, equipment for reactive power control, circuit breakers and isolators etc. Husky RTU in a substation performs data collection from various devices to provide an integrated solution. Following functions can be performed by Husky:• Status monitoring of all incoming and outgoing feeder CBs• Load Shedding Application (ISLS, DLR)• Intelligent Load Shedding Algorithms for Under Frequency and Transformer

Overload Protection• Control operations• Keeping track of energy import/exports• Sequence of Events (SOE) for trip analysis. Time stamping at 1ms resolution• Interface to protection system over IEC 61850 or IEC 60870-5-103

SIRIUS SCADA can be installed at the central location to act as Master Station for collecting data from different substations. SIRIUS can communicate with Husky over IEC 60870-5-104 or other standard protocols (based on available media) and provide an integrated solution. Configuration used in Husky RTU can be directly imported into SIRIUS for seamless integration.

Husky RTU has been approved by Northern Region Power Committee for deployment in the Grid Substations and has been successfully installed at various substations, covering voltage levels from 400KV to 11KV, of POWER GRID, TATA Power and BSES.

Oil & gasPipelinesSIRIUS SCADA system is installed for monitoring and control of pipeline & brings into its scope Pump Stations, Block Valve Stations, Tap-off-points and Terminal stations set up along the pipeline. Husky RTUs are installed at various locations for integration with Master Control Station. SCADA system installed at a central location called Master Control Station (MCS) remotely controls various equipment for each station. The data acquired by SIRIUS is utilized by our Pipeline Management System for a variety of applications, e.g., Leak detection and location, pig tracking, batch tracking, pipeline simulation etc.

TerminalsOil companies distribute their refined products to retail outlets and bulk consumers from oil terminals. Such terminals are automated for business and loading operations. ITAS is a Terminal Automation System with SIRIUS at its core for oil/gas truck and wagon loading, tank farm management, product dispensing control, product custody transfer monitoring and control. It is also integrated with customers’ ERP based product ordering and invoicing system.

Retail OutletsSSS’s Retail Outlet Automation solution consists of Intelligent MPD electronics having capability of vehicle identification, integration with back-end computer system, payment by smart card/credit card enabling its use in self service mode. Tank level measurement system helps in online tracking of product inventory, calculation of water content & pilferage control. Using a back-end computer, operations of all dispensers are monitored. The back-end computer also forecasts demand for various products based on which their orders are placed with company’s regional office through a communication link.

Railways

We are RDSO approved, largest supplier for SCADA system and RTUs to Indian Railways for traction power monitoring and control in its electrified network. SIRIUS SCADA along with its latest generation of Husky RTUs has been deployed on various sections throughout the country. This system is used for remote monitoring and control of traction power distribution in Railway networks. System also helps in day-to-day maintenance of the traction power network by facilitating power block from the remote control room in the sections where maintenance work is to be carried-out. The system also helps in fast restoration of power in cases of failures such as transformer break down, by allowing extension of power from adjacent section. Automatic Fault Localization function helps in locating and isolating the faulty sections. The system also monitors

maximum demand, energy consumption and control of power factor.

Husky RTU also integrates various protection relays at TSS over IEC 60870-5-103 protocol and its data is transmitted to RCC for calculation of Fault Distance. Disturbance records are automatically fetched by the RTU from the relay to be transmitted independently to Master Station. the disturbance data is transferred in standard COMTRADE format.

SIRIUS SCADA system has been deployed at Mumbai Monorail system where it integrates both Power and Comms SCADA. The system provides a unified experience to end-user by integrating all subsystems together.

Monitoring & control of substations at railway workshops and railway stations for their non-traction power network using SIRIUS SCADA and Husky RTU. The application includes Energy Monitoring and Profiling using varied communication media viz. optical, wireless, GSM/GPRS and wired network.

City GAS DistributionWe provide solutions for local/remote monitoring and control of City Gas distribution networks. Facilities in a City Gas Distribution Network consist of CNG Stations, City Gate Stations, Industrial Consumers, Field/District regulating stations etc., each of which consists of different equipment (e.g., compressors, dispensers, gas generators etc.) controlled by different types of IEDs which require different communication protocols and communication lines for communication with a SCADA system. These stations are typically linked with a City level SCADA System over wireless connection, which in turn is

linked with the company's centralized SCADA system, typically over a wired connection.Embedded ControllersSSS has expertise to design and develop single board computers using embedded controllers and platform such as embedded Linux / Windows XP and Windows CE and RTOS. Embedded controllers can be used as protocol converters supporting industry standard and legacy communication protocols. Taking it further, Synergy is working towards developing application specific IEDs.
