Transport network

Global interconnected world: How will progress?

The standardization of the transport (containerization, palletization) becomes the transport in a packetnetworkCargo is sent in a standard format

-> Container / Pallets / ISO /…

The most evolved packetnetwork that exist is theTELECOM NETWORK

Can it be used as ananalogy?

World of service sharing a network

Page 8: Synchromodality: Future of nodes · The standardization of the transport (containerization, palletization) becomes the transport in a packet network Cargo is sent in a standard format->

- Phone: point to pointconnection and direct transport ofinformation.

- First Packet Network (X.25) ->Guaranteed Packet. Reliable andordered

- Packet Network oriented toservice (ATM) -> Fixed Packet size-> Different QoS

- Flexible packet network (IP) ->Variable packet size. Lots ofservices. Unordered sequence ofpackets.

TELECOM EVOLUTION TRANSPORT EVOLUTION

?

- Dedicate Vessel: 100% of theresource is dedicate, despite be fullor not

- Containers. Pre-stablished routeand guaranteed the transport 1 by1. There is no QoS

- Containers. Pre-stablished routeand guaranteed 1 by 1, but followingand managing by QoS

- Total Flexibility. Container don’tknow the route. In any node, theroute is selected: Physical Internet

Why evolved?SAVING COSTS (lines, nodes) AND INCREASE SERVICES

LINES AND NODES

Lines: information means of transport

Nodes: Place that receive the information and decide the next step

TELECOM LINES / NODES EVOLUTION:

1) Low capacity lines. Exist queues and congestion. Priority is a key factor, because time-sensible services will fail if the priority is not used. NODES: MUST process the information

2) High capacity lines: The capacity is as high that it is impossible to fill it. There is not congestion. The priority is not important, because there is enough resources for any services. Nodes lose intelligent.

Progressive evolution:

1. Increase capacity in troncalnetwork

2. FTTH

Core Network: Megavesselsand TEN-T Core Network

Access Network: feeders / TEN-T Comprehensive Network

Last Mile: connection to the customer

Nodes: terminals / Ports Logistic Zones

Synchromodality

Giving the intelligence to the transport.

Intelligence block:Management of any packet, analysis and decisions.Cargo Analysis and definition of it optimum route. Even mixing.

E/S Block:Connection to any mediumPort /Train /Trucks Terminals

Monitoring block: Tracking

There blocks are interconnected by internal links: BUSES, designed to avoid congestion in them.Port Internal services

Nodes Analysis / Port Analysis

Future

Physical Internet: Following the evolution of telecom in transport.

Page 15: Synchromodality: Future of nodes · The standardization of the transport (containerization, palletization) becomes the transport in a packet network Cargo is sent in a standard format->

1. Logistics have to change the vision to the service to final customer.

2. PORTS should be intelligent (ROUTERS), that allow to manage the cargo optimizing the flow to increase the customer experience

1. Divide the monitoring block (Customs / PCS / PMS) / the management block (logistic area) and the interfaces (Terminals).

2. Link the internal blocks with enough capacity to avoid congestion

3. Transport networks have to be synchronized to used all the possibilities of the intelligence: synchromodality

4. Alternative routes allow the compliment of customer experience: - some need more velocity (paying more) - other NEED less velocity (and cheaper)- And solve problems!
