The Brawley Band Program is pleased to announce the addition of an elite ensemble: the Symphonic Band. These are the

students who, through auditions, have proven to be the most talented in all three grade levels of Brawley Middle School.

Around 60 members strong, this ensemble meets as a full band only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Being the higher level

musicians, these students are expected to rehearse and perform at a much higher and more musically sensitive standard

than the concert band levels. The Symphonic Band members already have a strong knowledge of proper personal and

ensemble tone, intonation, and a strong knowledge of notes and rhythms.

This is considered an extracurricular ensemble; these students must have a very strong practice ethic because they will all

have a second ensemble they are responsible for. Some will be in Jazz Band and others will be in the 6th, 7

th, or 8

th grade

concert bands. This is crucial because, meeting only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students cannot gain the necessary

music theory and basic concepts during Symphonic Band; they must do so in the other ensembles.

A fun opportunity to keep Concert Band challenging: Ms. Schroeder encourages the Symphonic Band students to learn a

“secondary” instrument in their concert band. This is not required but is a fun opportunity to keep the interest and

challenge in both ensembles. Please contact Ms. Schroeder about the opportunity to play a secondary instrument in the

concert band!

By turning in this form, I state that I understand the terms and conditions associated with the 2012-2013 Symphonic Band

Audition Contract. If I make the band, I promise to be a valuable member of the ensemble. If I do not make the band, I

understand that it is because my musical skills still need developing and my participation in the Concert Band or Jazz Band

will be focused on fine tuning my skills to achieve a higher level of musicianship.
