Did You Know? Fascinating Brain FactsYour brain weighs about 3 pounds.
***It is about 75 percent water.
***It consists of about 100 billion neurons. (nerve cells)
***There are anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 synapses (specialized junctions through which neurons signal
to each other and to muscles or glands.
More Brain Facts
Your brain has no pain receptors—
your brain can feel no pain.
***
Your brain contains 100,000 miles of blood vessels.
***
Your brain is the fattest organ in your body and may consist of at least 60 percent fat.
***
A newborn baby’s brain grows about 3 times its size in the first year.
More Brain Facts
Your brain uses 20 percent of the total oxygen in your body.
***If your brain loses blood for 8 to 10 seconds, you
will lose consciousness.***
While awake, your brain generates between 10 and 23 watts of power ‐‐ or enough energy to
power a light bulb.

More Brain Facts
The old adage of humans only using 10% of their brain is not true. Every part of the brain has a known function.
****The brain can live for 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen, and then it
begins to die. No oxygen for 5 to 10 minutes will result in permanent brain damage.
****A study of 1 million students in New York showed that students
who ate lunches that did not include artificial flavors, preservatives, and dyes did 14 percent better on IQ tests than
students who ate lunches with these additives.

Thinking builds the brain
• Every time you recall a memory or have a new thought, you are creating newconnections in your brain.
Which Are You? Left? Right? Whole?
LEFT Brain Dominant
Prefer using the right hand
Logical, rational
Mathematical
Focused on the details
Very articulate
Very organized
Less visual memory
Less imagination

Which Are You? Left? Right? Whole?
RIGHT Brain Dominant
More left body activity
Intuition and gut feeling
Artistic, creative
Sees the whole picture
Less articulate‐more gestures
Lacks Organization
Strong visual memory
Strong Imagination
The Autonomic Nervous System: Parasympathetic and Sympathetic
The Parasympathetic Nerves:
Promotes maintenance of the body at rest
• Rest and digest activities
• Sexual arousal
• Largely subconscious activities
This system works behind the scenes and when in balance, promotes peace, relaxation, good digestion.
Sympathetic Nerves
Controls most of the body’s internal organs.
Primes the body for action
• The Antagonist: stress
• When this happens, it mobilizes the body into a flight or fight response.
• Adrenal and cardiovascular stimulation occurs.
Unfortunately many of us tend to stay in sympathetic overload due to how we perceive stress.

Guard Your Brilliant Brain
Did you Know? Your Brain may be harmed by:• Fluoride‐One of the most active research areas today is
fluoride’s ability to damage your brain. Recent human studies from China have confirmed the results of previous animal studies; that elevated fluoride exposure leads to reduced I.Q. in children.
• Cognitive ability is further reduced if your child is deficient in iodine.
• Even at levels as low as 1ppm (part per million), direct toxic effects such as increased uptake of aluminum and formation of beta‐amyloid plaques (the classic brain abnormality in Alzheimer's disease) occurs.Fluoride Acition Network
Cell Phones
• Akin to holding a mini‐microwave oven to your ear.
• Brain inflammation can be photographed with Thermography within 4 minutesof talking on a cell phone.
Wayne Cook Diodes—informational chart.
Alcohol
• Using Magnetic Resonance Induction (MRI) studies, a linear negative effect of alcohol consumption on brain volume was seen. They concluded that the brain shrinkage reported as a result of low to moderate alcohol consumption offers more support for the contention that alcohol is, overall, more detrimental than beneficial to your brain health and cognition.
Human Psychopharmacol. 2009 Apr;24(3):199‐205.

Vaccines
• Studies have shown that… (vaccine additives), from a single vaccine, can cause immune overactivationfor as long as two years. This means that the brain microglia remain active as well, continuously pouring out destructive chemicals. In fact, one study found that a single injection of an immune activating substance could cause brain immune overactivationfor over a year. This is very destructive.

Drugs
• Nerve transmitter blocking (acetylcholine) drugs commonly taken for a variety of common medical conditions negatively affect your brain, causing long term cognitive impairment. These drugs are called anticholinergics. They include such common over‐the‐counter brands as Benadryl, Dramamine, Excedrin PM, Nytol, Sominex, Tylenol PM, and Unisom and prescriptions such as Paxil, Detrol, Demerol and Elavil
"Researchers ... conducted a six‐year observational study, evaluating 1,652 Indianapolis area African‐Americans over the age of 70 who had normal cognitive function when the study began ... '[T]aking one anticholinergic significantly increased an individual's risk of developing mild cognitive impairment and taking two of these drugs doubled this risk.'"

Good Nutrition Determines Brain Development and Health
• Poor nutrition is especially harmful to children
• A junk food diet = a junky brain
• A healthy brain is rich in Omega‐3 fatty acids
• Nuts and seeds feed the brain good fats
• Organic fruits and veggies: Anti‐oxidant sources
• Healthy protein supplies amino acids to help produce neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine alertness and good moods
• Super Algae is a great source of these
Brain Nutrition in General
• B vitamins, especially B‐6, B‐12, and folic acid are essential for making neurotransmitters and to prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s
• Oxygen to the brain is essential. Keep exercising and using antioxidants
• “Zinc helps you think”
• Chromium improves glucose metabolism to feed the brain

Detoxifying Your Thought LifeReducing Mental Retention of Toxins
CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS (Dr. Caroline Leaf)
Did you know that negative thinking causes inflammation in the inner limbic system?
• Chemicals flow that cause depression.
• Serotonin levels decrease.
• The deep limbic system becomes inflamed.
• Depression results.
Stop Speaking Incongruously
• When your heart disagrees with what your mouth is speaking, disharmony occurs in the body.
• Neurochemical feedback loops become upset, chemical flows slow or stop, and immediately stress occurs.
• Stress is the reaction of your body to your thought life.
6/20/2011
15
Self Control promotes a Healthy Nervous System.
• Don’t react to your first emotion. Analyze it first.
• Control your thoughts. Accept the good, uplifting thoughts and reject those that are negative and pessimistic, using your free will.
• Negative statements release negative chemicals. Positive statements release positive chemicals
Emotions and Our Health
• Emotions are housed in the deep limbic system in chemical form, secreted into the thought life, and go through the heart in electromagnetic wave form.
• Don’t suppress emotion. Handle them intelligently. Expressing them gently and with love, allows the free flow of neuropeptides in your nervous system.
Love Adds Years to Your Life
There are clear changes in patterns of activity in the autonomic nervous system, immune system, hormonal system, brain and heart when you experience love, care, and compassion
