Welcome to Spanish III! Spanish III is a continuation of Spanish II. It is an advanced course. For those of you interested in the

language, this is a more communicative level of Spanish. This course will provide you with advanced

grammar , communication and listening abilities. Among the topics we will cover are: present tense, the

past tenses, commands, future tense, and the subjunctive mood. We’ll use a combination of lectures,

videos, presentations, and listening activities. I hope it will make you want to learn more about Spanish.

Last of all it should be fun and interesting! Please keep this syllabus in front of your binder!

GradesGradesGradesGrades There will be a quiz once or twice a week. There will be a total of 3 tests per six weeks. Check your

emails and calendar for test dates. Homework will be given sparingly. Daily work is 40%, homework is

worth 10% and tests/projects are worth 50%.

approximately 150 responses. Remember that your final counts 25% of your total semester grade.

related to driving, directions, toys, animals, childhood activities, special events, manners and customs.

Grammar: direct object pronouns, affirmative tú commands, present progressive, the imperfect tense,

reciprocal actions. Culture: Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, Antonio M. Ruiz. Spanish speaking countries

presentations. 2nd

six weeks: (Oct. 9 – Nov. 9) (5A-5B)…Vocabulary: Natural disasters, the news,

rescues, treatment for medical conditions, words related to an accident, parts of the body. Grammar: the

imperfect tense, preterit: verbs oír, leer, creer, and destruir, irregular preterits: venir, poner, decir, traer,

imperfect progressive and preterite. Culture: Zulia Gotay de Anderso, Diego Rivera, Día de los muertos

activity. Holiday presentations. 3rd six weeks: (Nov. 12 – Dec. 21) (6A-6B)…Vocabulary: Sporting

events, Emotions, Contests, Movies, Movie production. Grammar: preterite of –ir stem-changing verbs,

other reflexive verbs, indirect object pronouns, present perfect. Culture: Salvador Dali, El cine, Spanish

Christmas Caroling, Churros y Chocolate. Food presentations. 4th six weeks: (Jan. 8 – Feb. 22) (7A-

7B)…Vocabulary: The kitchen, cooking, recipes, foods, the outdoors, eating outdoors. Grammar:

negative tú commands, the impersonal se, usted and ustedes commands, uses of por. Culture: Simón

Silva, Carmen Lomas Garza, learn to dance, Famous person presentations. 5th six weeks: (Feb. 25- March

19) (8A-8B)…Vocabulary: Making travel plans, airports, tourist sites, staying in a hotel, tourist behaviors

and activities. Grammar: present subjunctive Culture: Valencia Garcia, travel practices, make piñatas. 6th

six weeks: (April 22 – June 6) (9A-9B)…Vocabulary: professions in science and technology,

professions in business, professions in the arts, professions in law and politics, earth, energy, the

environment. Grammar: the future tense, the subjunctive. Culture: David Alfaro Siqueiros, Alfredo

Arreguín, Market Day.
