I M PORT ANTWith a view to bring about greater reli ability, valid ity and objectivity i n the examination system and also for closer integration of teaching, learni ng and evaluati on.

(i) The syllabus has been divided into units. Questi ons will be set from each unit with provision for internal choice.

(i i ) In order to ensure that students do not leave out important portion of the syllabus, examiners shall be free to repeat the questions set in the previ ous examinations.

The examinees be permi tted to use their personal transi storised pocket battery operated calculators in the examinations. The calculator to be used by the candidates in the examinations should not have more than 12 di gits, 6 functions and 2 memories and should be noiseless and cordless. A calculator belonging to one candidate shall not be allowed to be used by another candidate. The Superintendent of the centre will have complete discretion to d isallow the use of a calculator which does not conform to the above speci fication.

In Engineering and any other examinations where the use of calculators is already permitted, it shall remain undisturbed.

THREE YEAR DEGREE COURSE

General Information 1. The examination for the degree of Bachelor of Laws shall consist of three parts covering a course of three academic years : (i) First Examination in Law (ii) Second Examination in Law (iii) Final Examination in Law 2. (i) Subject to the compliance with the requirements of the Ordinances and Regulations of the University and decisions of the Admission Board taken from time to time a candidate taken the Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Arts/Science/Commerce/ Medicine/ Pharmacy/Social Sciences/Engineering/Technology/Agriculture/ Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry of this University or of an Indian or Foreign University recognised for the purpose by the University and such other examinations as may be recommended by the Bar Council of India in this regard from time to time and securing atleast 45 per cent marks in the aggregate or securing such percentage of marks as prescribed by the Admission Board from time to time shall be eligible for admission to the LL.B. Course. (ii) The Dean, Faculty of Law may permit admission to a migrating candidate to Second Examination in Law who has passed his First Examination in Law of any other University in India recognised by the University under a scheme, which in essence is the same as the scheme of this University, on such terms and conditions as he may lay down. The Dean, Faculty of Law, may permit admission to a migrating candidate to Final Examination in Law, who has passed his Second Examination in Law of any other University in India, recognised by the University under a scheme, which in essence is the same, as the scheme of this University, on such terms and conditions as he may lay down. 3. A candidate, who after being admitted to the LL.B. Course completes a regular course of study in this University or its affiliated colleges for one academic year, shall be admitted to the First Examination in Law, and

4. A candidate, who after passing the First Examination in Law completes a regular course of study in this University or its affiliated colleges for one academic year, shall be admitted to the Second Examination in Law, and 5. A candidate, who after passing the Second Examination in Law completes a regular course of study in the University or its affiliated colleges for one academic year shall be admitted to the Final Examination in Law. The working time of the Faculty/Department shall be extended to atleast thirty hours per week including contact and correspondence programmes, tutorial, home assignments, library, clinical work etc. The actual time for class room lecture shall not be less than 27 hours per week for First and Second Examination in Law. 6. A candidate for the Final Examination in law shall present himself for examination in the following subjects: Subjects/Papers Maximum M arks (1) Property Law and Easements 100 (2) Civil Procedure Code & Law of Limitation 100 (3) Environment Protection and Law 100 (4) Interpretation of Statutes, Legal Language and Legal Writing 100 (5) Land Laws 100 (6) Arbitration, Conciliation and Alternate Dispute Resolution System 100 (7) Optional: 100 (a) Intellectual Property Law 100 (b) Maritime Law 100 (c) Law relating to Women and Children 100 (8) Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing Theory 40 Pract. 60 (9) Moot Court, Pre-trial Preparation and Participation in Trial Proceedings-Practical 100 7. (i) For each of the First, Second and Final Examination in Law for a pass, a candidate shall be required to obtain at least 36% marks in each paper and at least 48% marks in aggregate of all the subjects. (ii) The marks of the Three Examinations i.e. First, Second and Final Examinations in Law shall count together for a place in the pass list for the LL.B. Degree. (iii) A candidate shall be eligible for the Degree of Bachelor of Laws after he passed all the aforesaid Examinations. A candidate who secures not less than 60 per cent marks in the aggregate shall be placed in the First Division while one who obtains less than 60 per cent marks in the aggregate but not less than 48 per cent marks shall be placed in the Second Division. (iv) A candidate admitted under Para 2 (ii) shall be eligible for the Degree of Bachelor of Laws after he passes the Examination(s) of the University required to be taken by him. A candidate

who secures not less than 60 per cent marks in such examination(s) in the aggregate shall be placed in the First Division, while one who obtains less than 60 per cent marks in the aggregate, but not less than 48 per cent marks shall be placed in the Second Division. (v) A candidate who had already done his LL.B. from the University wants to appear at any of the additional papers prescribed for LL.B. Final he may be permitted to do so, but it will not be considered as a substitute for the optional paper already offered by him at the LL.B. Final Examination for the purpose of admission to higher classes. Supplementary Examination in Law 8. (i) Candidates who failed at the immediately preceding First or second Examination in two papers only and obtained 48% marks in the aggregate to the seven papers in which they have passed, or in the case of the candidates failing in the aggregate only and secured 48 per cent marks in the aggregate of the seven papers excluding the paper in which they have secured lowest marks shall be permitted to appear in that/those papers in which they have failed or obtained lowest marks. (ii) In order to be declared successful at the Supplementary Examination a candidate must obtain atleast 36 per cent marks in a paper and 48 per cent marks in aggregate of all the Nine papers, (iii) No division shall be awarded to the candidates passing LL.B., Degree Examination after having appeared at the Supplementary Examination more than one during the entire course. 9. (i) Ex-student shall be eligible to appear at the examination without keeping terms for subsequent year. (ii) An ex-student is one: (a) Who has appeared at the examination and failed, or (b) Who has satisfied all the requirements of the prescribed course of study including necessary minimum attendance but does not appear at the examination on account of illness or some other bonafide reason to be determined by the Dean of the faculty. (iii) Ex-student shall have to appear only in the courses which are in force for the time being and subject to the modification effected in this behalf. (iv) The marks of Viva-voce, Practical, Moot court etc. shall be carried-over in case of ex-student-Supplementary/Second chance in Supplementary. (v) The student will appear as ex-student only in either theory or practical in which he/she failed. 10. No candidate shall be allowed to combine Law and other Postgraduate courses.

Moot Court, Pre-trial Preparations and Participation in Trial Proceedings. Evaluation may be made before or after theory examination. The date of Practical examination will be notified by the Dean. The student has to attend at least 3 Moot Courts in one year. 15 marks for each moot court. 5 marks for written submission. 30 marks are meant for observance of two Court Cases, one in Civil and another of a Criminal. 20 marks are meant for interview where the student has to present the pre-trial preparation and interviewing techniques. Each student will prepare draft of plaint/petition and present his case before the evaluation committee Comprising by two permanent regular teachers or by one permanent lecturer and one local retire teacher or any permanent part time teacher or other part time teacher who fulfills eligibility criteria for lecturer as per UGC rules.
