Instructor: Ms. King

Course Title: Health 7th grade

Course Description 

Health education is a continuum of learning experiences that enables

students, as individuals and as members of society, to make informed

decisions, change behaviors, and change social conditions in ways that will

improve their quality of life. A primary goal of the health education is to

improve academic achievement and health literacy for all students. Health

literate students are:

• Critical thinkers and problem solvers when confronting health issues• Self-directed learners who can apply the knowledge and skills in health-

enhancing ways

• Effective communicators who organize and convey beliefs, ideas, andinformation about health issues

Grading Scale Standard Academic grade scale:

  100 – 90 A 

  89 – 80 B

  79 – 70 C  69 – 60 D

  59> F

Departmental Grading Policy Grades are earned based on a total point system, i.e. the total points that you earn isdivided by the total possible points to give your percentage.

e.g. You have earned a total number of 850 points. The total number of points possibleis 1000. 

850 ÷ 1000 = .850 X 100 = 85% = B

Science Lab Safety Rules 1 - Always wear safety goggles whenever you are working with chemicals or othersubstances that might get into your eyes.2 - Never reach across a flame.3 - Immediately notify your teacher if any chemical gets on your skin or clothing to findout what to do to clean it off.4 - Never look directly into a test tube when mixing or heating chemicals.5 - Always point a test tube away from you and others when heating it over a flame or

other heat source.6 - Never smell a chemical directly from the container. Wave your hand over theopening of the container and “waft” the fumes towards your nose. 7 - Never taste a chemical unless you are instructed by your teacher to do so.8 - Always clean up your work area and equipment after an experiment is completed.Equipment must be returned to its proper place.9 - Read and follow all directions exactly as they are written. If in doubt, ask yourteacher for help!10 - Never mix chemicals (or perform tests) without your teacher’s permission. 11 - Never run (or push someone else) in the lab.12 - Keep lids on bottles and containers when not in use.

13 - Never use broken or chipped glassware.14 - Keep your work area clean and keep all materials (clothing, hair, papers, etc.)away from a flame or heat source.15 - Immediately notify your teacher if you get cut or have another injury whenperforming an experiment.

16 - Wash your hands before and after each experiment.

Classroom Rules:

1.  Don’t communicate with anyone else when the teacher is talking 

a.  Communicating is listening to someone else when the teacher’s talking-don’t do it. 

b.  Communicating is mouthing words to someone else when the teacher’stalking- don’t do it. 

c.  Communicating is reading/writing a note not related to the classroom-don’t do it. 

d.  You may not speak when the teacher has given the floor to someone else.e.  Do not use your cell phones to communicate in the classroom, unless

given expressed permission.2.  Stay in your seat, unless given permission to move.3.  You are to already be seated in your seat when the bell rings

a.  There are times when you will be asked to move around. Listen to theinstructions before moving; then wait for the “Move like you’ve got apurpose.”  

4.  Respect the learning environmenta.  Remember to raise your hand, when you want to speak b.  There’s to be no hitting, pushing, cussing, or throwing c.  If you would not do it while sitting next to a parent or guardian at a

wedding or restaurant, do not do it in the classroom.d.  Remember there is a time and place for everything.

5.  You may not speak to anyone across the room

a.  When appropriate and necessary, you may speak to the person directly infront of you, directly behind you, or directly to either side.

b.  I should not hear you carrying on a conversationc.  Do not use your cell phones to communicate in the classroom, unless

E - Consistently tries to understand the purpose of his/her class work, pays closeattention and follows directions. Consistently assumes responsibility for having thenecessary tools and materials and immediately goes to work. Carefully evaluates or

rechecks his/her work and willingly revises it to achieve maximum accuracy andefficiency. Consistently adheres to school and classroom rules.

S - Usually tries to understand the purpose of his/her classwork, generally is attentive,and follows directions. Usually assumes responsibility for having the necessary tools andmaterials and begins work with little urging. Generally rechecks his/her work and makesminor revisions to assure increasing accuracy and efficiency. Generally adheres to

school and classroom rules.

U - Seldom tries to understand the purpose of his/her classwork, is inattentive, andgenerally disregards directions. Seldom has the necessary tools and materials and rarelyworks without urging. Seldom adheres to school and classroom rules.
