Course Description
• This course is designed for students to build theirEnglish competency in business and economiccommunication in both oral and written manners.
• The course mainly covers the provision of opportunities to students for developing theirreading, speaking, and writing skills, appropriatelyneeded for conducting a sound daily business andeconomic communication.
• The course is characterized with an intensiveinvolvement (treatment) of individual student in thecourse process.

Achievement Indicators• Appropriately use business and economic-related vocabulary
(technical terms) and concepts.
• Effectively comprehend a various kinds of business and
economic readings/ passages and evaluate information
constituted in the readings/ passages based on which
students are expected able to develop an extrapolation.
• Demonstrate speaking skills with a considerable confidence
particularly in business and economic (presentation/meeting)
forums.
• Demonstrate sufficient skills for conducting communication
through electronic devices.
• Appropriately develop effective written communication in
business such as composing a variety of business letters with
accurate use of grammar, terminologies, punctuations,
salutations, and the likes.

Course Materials• Reading materials covering selective topics derived from
daily business and economic issues like those in accounting,management, and economics. (the selected topics shouldbe matched with students’ departmental background).
• Student’s own topics selected from business and economicdaily events or activities which are familiar to them topresent individually through short oral presentation beforethe class.
• Some practical guidance to oral presentation
• Some practical guidance to visual-assisted presentation likepresenting and describing charts, tables, diagrams, and
other visual tools containing business and economic data.• Model of electronic communication
• Various forms of daily business letters including suchmodels as inquiry letters, offering letters, order letters,complain and adjustment letters, etc.

Course Strategy
• This course is conducted using:
– an intensive student-active learning approach
involving some methods, i.e. demonstration,
discussion, self-rehearsal, and presentation.
• This course strategy basically calls for active
involvement of individual student in the courseprocess.

Evaluation
• Continual assessment consisting of anecdotal
records on individual student’s performance
and achievement in terms of assignment
accomplishment and class participation. Thiscomponent makes up 60% of the final grade.
• Written final examination makes up the rest
of the final grade portion (40%).
