Remember the Lord in everything you

do,

and he will show you the right

way.

Proverbs 3:6

Page 8: sydenham methodist

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water

and asked,

"How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 2 to 5

pounds.

Page 9: sydenham methodist

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter.

It depends on how long you try to hold

it."

Page 10: sydenham methodist

He continued, "If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right

arm.

If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an

ambulance.

Page 11: sydenham methodist

In each case, it's the same weight.

But the longer I hold it, the heavier

it becomes. "

Page 12: sydenham methodist

"And that's the way it is with worries and problems.

If we carry our burdens all

the time, sooner or later, as the

burden becomes increasingly heavy,

we won't be able to carry

on.

As with the glass of water, you have to put it

down."

Page 13: sydenham methodist

Then Jesus said,

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you

will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

“Prayers Are Precious Jewels”

The Lord sees the good people and listens to their prayers.

1 Peter 3:12

Page 15: sydenham methodist

We live in a loud world. To get someone’s attention is not an easy

task.He must be willing to turn down the

radio, turn away from the monitor,

close the book.

Page 16: sydenham methodist

When someone is willing to silence everything else so that he can hear

us clearly, it is a privilege.

A rare privilege, indeed.

Page 17: sydenham methodist

Our prayers are honoured in heaven as precious jewels.

Purified and empowered, the words rise in a

delightful fragrance to our Lord.

Page 18: sydenham methodist

Our words do not stop until they reach the very throne of God.

Page 19: sydenham methodist

Our prayer on earth activates God’s power in heaven, and “God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Page 20: sydenham methodist

But this much is clear: actions in heaven begin when someone prays on

earth.

Our prayers move God to change the world.

We may not understand the mystery of prayer. We don’t need to.
