1.Abstract

Swype is a revolutionary text input solution that allows speeds exceeding 45 wpm

without a Keyboard. Ideal for touch screens or adapted pointing devices. Swype is taking the

industry by storm, and represents the first quantum leap in text input for people with disabilities

since word prediction was introduced over 20 years ago. You have to see it to believe it. And

when you do, you will be stunned. Swype is a patented software text input system for stylus- or

finger-based touch-screen devices that allows the user to easily input text at speeds exceeding 40

to 50 words per minute. Swype uses an on-screen virtual “QWERTY” keyboard (the standard

keyboard layout), but instead of pointing and tapping on each letter, the user traces an

approximate “connect the dots” path through the letters of a word. The stylus (or finger) is

placed down on or near the first letter and is kept in contact with the screen while sliding from

letter to letter, lifting from the screen when the last letter is reached. In this way, each word is

input by entering a simple path that passes through or near its letters. Spaces are generated

automatically, and individual characters or entire words can be shifted to upper case with simple

gestures performed in entering the path for a word. Swype’s path processing algorithms make it

possible to input the patterns quickly by eliminating the need for accuracy – the intended word is

produced even when there are spelling errors or gross path entry errors, ensuring success for

novices and rapid increases in input speed.

Introduction:

Swype is a fast way to enter text. To Swype, put your finger on the first

letter of the word and draw a path from letter to letter, lifting up after the last letter.

Swype allows users to enter words by sliding a finger or stylus from letter to letter, lifting only

between words. It uses error-correcting algorithms and a language model to guess the intended

word. It also includes a tapping predictive text system in the same interface.

Swype is designed for use on touchscreen devices with a traditional QWERTY keyboard.

The software has a size of less than one megabyte, and is as small as 500–900 kilobytes in most

cases, such as on devices running the Windows Mobile operating system according to the

product page. The recent beta comes with a large number of languages and software and can

easily exceed 10MB in size on the Android operating system platform. Swype consists of three

major components that contribute to its accuracy and speed: an input path analyzer, word search

engine with corresponding database, and a manufacturer customizable interface.

What is Swype? What is Swype?

Swype is a keyboard application that used on touch screen devices. This app isused in

various types of electronic devices ranging from mobile phones, Tablet PCs, televisions,

gaming devices, etc. The maker claims that the user will text easier and faster using Swype.

How to use Swype keyboard?

To use Swype, the user just has to drag their finger from one letter to other letters to form a

word. The user doesn’t have to lift the finger from screen or in other word they don’t have to

tap a letter by a letter. Instead, they only need to swipe. Pay attention to the picture below:

Swype Keyboard

Above picture is an example of Swype keyboard application installed on Android device.

Let’s say we want to write the “earth” word. When using traditional keyboard, the user

must tap the letter e + a + r + t + h. If the user use Swype, they just have to tap letter “e”

then drag their finger to letter ‘a‘ > ‘r‘ > ‘t‘ > ‘h‘. This way, the user will type faster. The

advantage of Swype is you don’t have to 100% accurately touching the desirable letter. The

software will predict the word to be written.

In order to work, the Swype application must have word dictionary that support your

language or it will show wrong word result every time you texting. English language is

support by default anyway.

First of all, you must check is your Android phone already has Swype. Here’s how to do it:

Changing a Word

There are many ways to edit a word. If Swype does not output the word you wanted, tap on the word

and select an alternate from the Word Choice List. To quickly replace a word, simply double-tap on

the word and Swype (or tap) a replacement word.

Double Letters

Swype usually knows if you want a double letter in a word without your doing anything special, but

you can help Swype recognize you want a double letter by scribbling slightly or making a loop on the

letter. For example, to get the "ll" in "hello", scribble (or make a loop) on the "l" key.
