Safe Work Practices (SWP) for Bar Bending and Fabrication of Rebars

Work activity that involves working with bar bending and fabrication of rebars. All personnel working with the activity shall conform to the following SWP:

Bar bending and fabrication of rebar cage

1. To identify suitable working area with reasonable ground condition for movement of heavy

machineries, proper signage and barricade.

2. All the equipment and machineries must be checked and certified if necessary.

3. All the workers must be brief with RA, SWP and major scope of work prior to the commencement of

works.

4. All workers must be brief for how to STOP the machine immediately in case of Emergency.

5. All the Permit-to-Work must be applied prior to the start of work.

6. All the workers must wear proper PPE before start of work.

7. Daily checking to the condition of bar bending machine, gas cylinder before start of work.

8. To direct unauthorized personnel away from the work area during the operation period.

9. To make sure only the designated person to operate the bar bending machine.

10. All rebar to be laid above the ground for safe handling purpose and to avoid of water stagnant.

11. All workers must follow the SWL (not more than 20kg/person) during the manual lifting of straight bar

or inserting the straight bar into the bar bending machine.

12. To stop the bar bending machine immediately if the straight bar stuck inside the machine and the

fabrication can only be resumed after the abovementioned condition are clear.

13. To make sure the working platform for the fabrication of rebar cage are satisfied and suitable for work.

14. To clear all the combustible materials away from the hot work area if using the gas to cut the rebar.

15. To direct the movement of heavy vehicle during the hoisting of rebar cage upon the completion.

16. To do the housekeeping upon the completion of work.
