Boys Under 16 Inter Regional Water Polo Championships

Inter Regional U16 Boys Championship took place in Blackpool in July for Division 1 and in Liverpool for Division 2. North West Tigers have been crowned Swim England Inter Regional Boys U16 champions. In the meantime, East Midlands won promotion after taking top spot in Division Two. They were undefeated at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre, winning five and drawing one of their six matches, to finish two points ahead of the West Midlands. The East Midlands defeated South West 7-3, West Midlands 5-3, North West Ravens 7-0, South East 10-2 and bottom club Wales 16-2. They were denied a 100 per cent record after being held to a 6-6 draw by Ireland. Tim Dunsbee, East Midlands’ head coach, said: “The players have worked hard and we are very happy with the results. “We are a small water polo region trying to punch above our weight. We are really pleased to see our close friends from the West Midlands also in the medals.”

Lizzie Simmonds Visit to Meridian Leisure Centre

Swimmers from Louth’ Dolphins’ Swimming Club were recently treated to a masterclass in backstroke from Lizzie Simmonds at their home in The Meridian Leisure Centre. Lizzie who represented Great Britain in the 2008 and 2012 summer Olympics, European Championships and the FINA World Aquatics Championships as well as representing England in the Commonwealth Games spent time with children from all squads giving them a motivational talk about the psychology of winning, the main theme being you have to fail many times in order to succeed. Lizzie then spent a couple of hours giving the youngsters tuition on how to improve their backstroke technique which included demonstrations. There was also plenty of time for photos and autographs. Lizzie said of her visit

"I had a fantastic visit to Louth Dolphins Swimming Club on Sunday - the pool and facilities are top

quality, and the club has an awesome group of swimmers, coaches and volunteers. I was particularly

impressed with how attentive the swimmers were - listening to my story beforehand, and then trying all the

backstroke drills I was teaching in the pool. There is a really friendly vibe on poolside, and it was a

pleasure to be part of their skill development programme."

Many thanks to the coaches and Matt Clarke for organising the visit.

Midlands Summer Synchro Camp 2018 Round-Up

30th July to 2nd August 2018 saw the SE Midlands Region hold its very first “Midlands Summer Synchro Camp” at the David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham. There were 26 swimmers of mixed of ages, working from Figure Grades 2 to 5, bringing lots of different experience from their different clubs, to the work we did both in and out of the pool. Each day there were 2x 2hr sessions of pool work focusing on stamina, figure grades, routine highlights, a special emphasis on spin skills and drills and of course, a mini routine. On the final day we displayed all of the routines for the parents. Gen - aged 16 says, “The pool sessions were very challenging but fun, due to the coaches’ enthusiasm and encouragement”. Maddie – Aged 15 said, “I thought that the camp was very useful and valuable for my swimming. I particularly enjoyed staying over, making new friends from different clubs and trying all the land based activities. The yoga for me was my favourite part of the land training. The opportunity to work intensively on spins was my favourite part of the pool work.”
