A fan favourite is back this season; with the NSW Swifts rewarding supporters for coming early to our home games with the First 500 through the doors to receive a special gift.

To help celebrate Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 Round, the First 500 gift is a special pair of Netball World Cup FUN-glasses!

If you’re in receipt of a pair of FUN-glasses, be sure to wear them throughout today’s game to help celebrate what will be a special event in August!

returns in 2015

During today’s Round 3 ANZ Championship game, the NSW Swifts will be celebrating the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015.

Returning to Sydney after 24 years, the Netball World Cup is less than five months away with the world’s best taking the court, Friday 7 – Sunday 16, August 2015 at Sydney Olympic Park.

NSW Swifts’ members and supporters are in for something special today, with this game

featuring an official appearance of the Netball World Cup 2015 Trophy. The Trophy is the ultimate prize for the sport and fans can get up close with the silverware...and get a snap!

If you haven’t already done so, make sure you sign up to Centre Circle, the official newsletter of NWC2015. It is free to sign up to Centre Circle at www.nwc2015.com.au.

Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 Round!

It is fantastic to return to our home court for the first time this ANZ Championship season. After two long road trips to face tough New Zealand opposition, it’s wonderful for the Team to run out to a Sea of Red in front of

our record-breaking Membership.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our 2,200 Members, our Corporate Partners, and all our fans that will fill the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre today for your unbelievable support throughout the pre-season and over the past fortnight. Not just from the players and coaching staff, but the entire Club, thank you for being part of this journey. I invite you all to continue that encouragement throughout the game by helping to create a wall of noise from go to whoa, it really does make a difference out on court!

Today marks a very special occasion, not only is it the NSW Swifts 100th ANZ Championship game but it’s also Susan Pettitt’s (nee Pratley) 100th ANZ Championship Cap. Susan is the epitome of what it means to be a Swift, and to not miss a single game for the Club since the

inception of the League in 2008 reflects her professionalism, ability and competitive spirit.

The ANZ Championship has grown exponentially over these eight years and is revered as the world’s premier netball competition played by the best athletes in the world. That is certainly the case today as we play last season’s Runners-Up, the Queensland Firebirds; a team we greatly admire, who is led superbly by Australian Diamonds’ Captain Laura Geitz.

With six members of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal-winning Australian Netball Team in action today, netball fans are in for a real treat.

We welcome Roselee Jencke OAM, her team, plus their supporters to our home here at Sydney Olympic Park and look forward to an exciting contest.

Go Swifts!

Susan Pettitt Celebrating 100 ANZ Championship games

The name ‘Pratley’ has become synonymous with the NSW Swifts since the inaugural ANZ Championship season in 2008, however all that changes in 2015 with news that the veteran shooter would forever more be known as Susan Pettitt.

For Susan she admits it was an easy decision and something that she was very proud to do for her family.

“I really wanted to have a dress with ‘Pettitt’ on the back that I can share with my kids; that I played for the NSW Swifts with their name as well. It’s a simple thing, but something I’m really excited about,” Susan said.

Pride. It’s a word that resonates a lot with the 30-year-old who today will take the court for her 100th ANZ Championship game. Not only will Susan join an elite club of 100-gamers, she also becomes the first NSW Swift to achieve this feat.

“I want to say it will be just like any other game, but the prospect of playing 100 games in the world’s best netball competition is quite an achievement, and to be able to do that as a one-club player is something I am immensely proud of,” Susan said.

“I feel extremely honoured to represent my State and the Club, and I take the responsibility that comes with that honour very seriously. To be able to play netball at the highest level isn’t something I take for granted and so I want to give my best every time I put on the Red dress.”

To add to the prestige of the occasion, Susan has featured in every NSW Swifts game since 2008 (yes, that means the Club is also celebrating 100 ANZ Championship games!) – in every high and every low, doing what she does best… going to the post.

In her eight-year ANZ Championship career Susan has scored more than 2,300 goals, which sees her sitting as the sixth highest goal scorer in competition history, and is the only Swift to have finished a full 60-minute game with 100 percent shooting accuracy; not once, but twice (Round 10, 2008 and Round 1, 2011).

Amongst the personal achievements, we had to ask Susan what she felt were the greatest moments in her ANZ Championship career so far...

Winning the 2008 ANZ Championship“No one expected us to really do well that season, let alone be crowned the inaugural Champions. We’d lost Liz [Ellis] who announced her retirement the year before, and Mon [Mo’onia] Gerrard had moved to Adelaide to join the Thunderbirds, so our defence end was very new and raw.

“It was a tough grind and really different to play New Zealand teams so often, after really only coming up against them during the international season. But it’s something I’m so proud to have been a part of, and I’m hoping we can repeat this year.”

The inclusion of International talent“Prior to the ANZ Championship, the only international exposure you would get was on the world stage, and I was very fortunate to have made my Australian Diamonds debut in 2006. However since the introduction of the ANZ Championship we are coming up against the Kiwis on a more regular basis, and have seen more players from other countries such as England, Jamaica and more recently Malawi.

“I think we can now see the on-going effects of including more netballing nations and exposing their players to high-quality competition, and the positive outcome it has had on the sport as a whole.”

Friends like Cath Cox“Cath Cox is an idol of mine, so to have played with her for many seasons was not only a delight, but an honour. Cath is someone who has had a profound effect on my career – someone who I looked up to, who taught me so much about the game, but also made life enjoyable off the court. Over the years I’ve made many combinations and friendships on and off the court, but Cath will always have a lasting impression on my game.

“I’m really enjoying playing with Caity [Caitlin Thwaites] and feel our connection is getting stronger, and I’m looking forward to seeing how that develops along with Erin [Hoare] and Steph [Stephanie Wood] this season and beyond.”

Sharing the journey with Rob Wright“Many people may know this, but Rob was my first ever Head Coach when I was selected as part of the NSW 17/U Team as a baby 15-year-old from Bega. He believed in my abilities as a youngster first starting out, and continues to back me to this day.

“It was a wonderful achievement to see Rob as the Swifts Head Coach; not only as the first male ANZ Championship Head Coach, but to share our journey together – starting in the State Team to the pinnacle of elite netball.”

Join us in congratulating Susan on recaching 100 ANZ Championship games! Victoria Bain

News CentralAs I’m sure you’ll agree there is nothing like the atmosphere of a NSW Swifts home game!

The noise and support generated by Swifts’ Members in the RED ZONE really makes a difference, something which is acknowledged by the Team.

We appreciate that plans change and not all Members can attend every home game. So the NSW Swifts would like to highlight

that Membership Cards are transferrable on game days and you can give them to family, friends, teammates or colleagues to help fill the Sports Centre in your absence.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Membership Team on (02) 9951 5000 during business hours.

Help us create an atmosphere BEYOND EXPECTATIONS in 2015!!

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBERS

Members will have discovered an exclusive NSW Swifts Bandana in their 2015 Membership Pack.

To help create a Sea of Red, make sure you wear this Bandana as part of your match day attire!

There are many ways to wear or accessorise with this Swifts Bandana, and here are two examples as modelled by Sharni Layton and Stephanie Wood!

HOW DO YOU WEAR YOUR BANDANA?!

NSW Swifts midcourter and St Clair resident Paige Hadley has joined a number of personalities in supporting The Daily Telegraph’s Fair Go For The West campaign for 2015.

This campaign was first run by The Daily Telegraph in 2014 and was about providing a heightened voice to Sydney’s fastest growing and most populated region.

Paige joins Western Sydney born-and-bred ambassadors including Test cricket captain Michael Clarke, Australian pop music group Justice Crew, plus winner of X Factor in 2014 Marlissa, former Parramatta Eels captain Nathan Hindmarsh, Channel 7 newsreader Chris Bath and Australian Olympian Jessica Fox in lending their support. NSW Swifts Head Coach Rob Wright, along with players Caitlin Thwaites, Taylah Davies and Paige Hadley, feature in a new video to keep sport safe for kids in NSW.

Developed by the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian the video is part of a Child Safe Sports campaign to raise community awareness about managing risks to children in sports environments.

The campaign also aims to assist the sport and recreation sector

with their phase in to the new Working With Children Check (WWCC) from the 1st April 2015.

Australian Diamonds’ Head Coach Lisa Alexander recently announced her Leadership Group for 2015, which includes both Kimberlee Green and Julie Corletto.

After sharing the duties with Vixens’ Bianca Chatfield over the past two international seasons,

Kim will be sole Vice-Captain supporting Captain Laura Geitz.

The Captains will be joined by Julie and Thunderbird’s Captain Renae Hallinan, after the duo were selected into the Leadership Group at the Diamonds’ training camp in December last year.

2015 Leadership Group

In early February, the NSW Swifts unveiled its Leadership Group for the 2015 ANZ Championship season, which will be led by current Australian Diamonds’ Vice-Captain and reigning ANZ Championship co-MVP Kimberlee Green.

Kim captains the NSW Swifts for a fourth consecutive season, with defender Sharni Layton and fellow midcourter Abbey McCulloch named as co-Vice Captains.

“2014 was Kim’s first season as sole Captain of the Club and she thrived with this added responsibility, not only producing career-best form herself, but leading the team to its first Finals appearance in three years,” explained NSW Swifts’ Head Coach Rob Wright.

“I’ve been impressed by Kim’s growth as a leader while in the role as Captain, and through her professionalism and desire for excellence, she continually inspires those around her to want to improve week on week.”

Coming off a stellar 2014 – which included being named the NSW Swifts QBE Most Valued

Player, inclusion in the FOXTEL All-Stars Team, plus Commonwealth Games Gold with the Australian Netball Team – Kim is looking forward to building upon the success of 2014.

“It’s an honour to be named as Captain for another season, and it is a role I take great pride in holding,” remarked Kim Green.

“We have such an exciting roster, and along with the coaching and support staff led by Rob (Wright), we continue to build upon the foundations that were laid last season in creating an environment which supports our performance ambitions, and fosters a culture of respect and comradery.”

“With strong off-season recruitment, the move to our new elite training facilities at Netball Central, plus the overwhelming support we’ve received from our sold out 2015 Membership; I can honestly say I’ve never been more excited about taking the court for a new season,” concluded Kim.

The NSW Swifts introduced a new system this season when appointing their Leadership Group,

The NSW Swifts coaching bench has a familiar look in 2015, with Head Coach Rob Wright joined by Assistant Coaches, Megan Anderson and Anita Keelan. The coaching bench and athletes will be supported by Team Manager, Toni Kidwell.

with Rob Wright giving the new roster – which includes six news faces – an extended period of time for the team dynamic to form and the natural emergence of the leaders within the group. The Leadership Team was shaped following a self-nomination and voting process, involving the players and coaching staff.

For Sharni, this is her second year as a member of the Swifts’ Leadership Group, however it’s the first time 25-year-old Abbey McCulloch has been appointed to such a role at the Club.

“We are very fortunate to have so many leaders within our roster, not just those chosen, but the experience and qualities of Susan Pettitt (nee Pratley), Caitlin Thwaites, Julie Corletto and Jade Clarke,” said Rob Wright.

“As a Club we take a holistic approach to leadership, it’s more than just performance-led and it extends beyond netball. Kim, Sharni and Abbey complement each other very well, all bringing different skills to the table, and will provide strong yet inspiring leadership for us this season,” Wright concluded.
