PREPARATIONFront SideBasecoat entire surface (front side and the border of the chalkboard side with Chalky Finish, Yesteryear.

Dip a slightly damp rag in Warm White and wipe over entire surface. Wipe off excess.

Chalkboard SideMeasure and mark 3/4" in intervals in from both sides, up from the bottom and down from the top. Tape this off making sure to press fi rmly along the edges to avoid any paint bleed. Using chalkboard paint apply two coats; one vertically, one horizontally. Allow to dry between coats.

Both SidesTrace on pattern, including valance (the decorative drapery).

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSNote that throughout the instructions a pencil eraser is used to make larger dots and a stylus is used to make smaller dots. See close up pictures for dry-brushing.

Front SideTo stencil using the Old French Script and Black Plum, position the stencil and adhere in place. Load the stencil brush and blot off the excess. Use irregular pressure (this gives a distressed look) to stencil.

Lightly shade French Grey Blue under valance, down the sides and around the main pattern. Very softly fl oat a shade again using Black Plum.

Pastry: Basecoat Light Buttermilk. Shade Antique White under the whipping cream, down the sides and along the bottom. Drybrush along the center Warm White being careful to avoid the shaded areas. Paint the cream center with Black Plum. Highlight above and below the cream center with Warm White.

Basecoat the whipping cream topping with Warm White. Trace the details onto the whipping cream and cake. Lightly shade Grey Sky along the top, in folds and around the large berries.

All Large Blueberries: (see closeup picture). Basecoat the berries French Grey Blue. Shade Deep Midnite Blue. Highlight along some of the edges with Warm White to shape. Add a very light fl oat of Black Plum randomly along some of the shaded areas of the blueberries. Drybrush with Warm White to add more shape to the berries trying to avoid the shaded areas.

Using a ball stylus dot the nub and using the tip pull the dot a bit to make it irregular in shape. Dot a refl ective highlight in Warm White on each berry with sty-lus. (See picture). Float a shade around each berry Black Plum.

All Stems and Leaves: Line all stems and vines Hauser Medium Green. Basecoat the leaves with Soft Sage. Shade along one side Hauser Medium Green. Line a vein Warm White.

Using the ball stylus dot little tiny berries using French Grey Blue, Black Plum, Warm White and Yel-low Ochre along all the vines.

Little Berries: I wanted the little berries to be irregu-lar in shape, look more realistic and to have some texture so I used the end of a pencil eraser, dipped it in the paint and pressed it onto the surface. If you prefer a cleaner, I textured! look you can handpaint the little berries or use a 1/4" dot stencil.

Blue Berries: Dip in French Grey Blue. Shade along one side and between berries Deep Midnight Blue. Highlight the other side with Warm White. Very lightly fl oat a shade Black Plum. Dot the nub Deep Midnite Blue and pull the dot a bit to make it irregu-lar in shape. Dot a highlight Warm White.

Yellow Berries: Dip in Buttermilk. Shade along one side with Yellow Ochre. Highlight the other side with Warm White. Dot the nub Yellow Ochre and pull the dot a bit to make it irregular in shape. Dot a highlight Warm White.

Very softly fl oat a shade Black Plum around these little blue berries.

VALANCEGreen Sections: basecoat Light Sage. Shade down the left side and along the bottom with Soft Sage. Drybrush Warm White.

Cream Sections: basecoat Light Buttermilk. Shade down the left side and along the bottom with Yellow Ochre. Drybrush Warm White. Line between each section and dot the bottoms with Warm White.

Chalkboard SideBerries and Stems: paint same as front side.

To paint the stripe under the chalk-board I taped off a section 1/8" wide and base coated it Black Plum.

Scroll TopBasecoat Chalky Finish, Yesteryear. Drybrush all over with Warm White.

FINISHINGTape off for the three stripes that run along the base. Each stripe is 1/8" wide. The top layer is basecoated in Butter-milk, the middle layer is Light Sage and the bottom layer is Light Buttermilk. Dot along the middle stripe in Warm White.

Splatter the front, back, base and scroll with Black Plum. (I covered the black-board to avoid getting any paint on it.) If you take a look at the picture I splattered a little extra on the whipping cream to give it more texture. Splatter again with Warm White.

Center and glue the scroll onto the top.

Lightly spray several coats of All Purpose Sealer. Allow to dry between coats.

Optional: sand some of the edges to give the sign a distressed look.

Enjoy!
