Early next term we have our annual Scholastic Book Fair.
This coming holiday break is the perfect time to start
thinking about and sourcing your book character
costumes for Dress Up day which is always held on the
last day of our book fair.
For all the new families at Swan Reach this year,
Scholastic (our book club organisation) provides the
school with a big selection of amazing books at
fantastic prizes. Our book fair runs before school and
after school on designated days for a week with the last
day being a dress up day where students and staff
come to school dressed as their favourite book
character and participate in a parade around the
basketball court, with prizes awarded and a special
surprise visitor.

Forsafetyandsupervisionreasons,thereareonlytwospotswhereparentscanpickuptheirkids—Thegateatthebasketballcourtandthebottomgate,nearthereboundwall.
Bothareashavebeenselectedasallthekidscanwaitsafelyinsidetheschoolgroundsorhavethesupervisionoftheteacheronduty.
Parkingisbecomingmoreofanissue,attheschool,asweincreaseinsize.WehavebeenworkingcloselywiththeEastGippslandShire,constructingfootpathsandconnectingtheschoolwiththerestofthetown,aswellaslookingatthebestoptiontoimprovethe$lowoftraf$icpasttheschool,suchas‘Kissanddrop’zonesandextradesignatedparkingareas.
Weallcoulddoourbitwithafewsimplesteps:
• Ifyouhavetoparkontheoppositesideoftheroad,pleasewalkacrosstopickupyourchild.Childrendonothaveadevelopsenseofperceptionandmaynotseevehiclescoming.Also,kidsarehardtoseewhentheroadisbusy.
• Practice‘kiss&drop’infrontoftheschool.Ifwecankeepthefrontoftheschoolclear,traf$icwill$lowsmoothly.
SchoolFees.
Schoolfeesareanimportantaspectsofallgovernmentschools,astheysupplementmanyoftheprogramswetakeforgranted.Forexample,theschoolspentover$25,000oncomputers,in2016,justtoupdatemachines.EvenifeveryfamilypaystheTechnologypartofthefees,thetotalwillonlybejustover$5,000.Atbest,thefeespayfortheprogramsweuseandnottheactualmachines.
Also,thecostsofexcursionsandtransportkeepgoingup—Whereoneshortbustripcosts$600,weneedtwobusestomovethewholeschool.
Wehaveanumberofpaymentoptionsavailable,ifyouwouldliketoseeusand$indout.

Lastweek,IattendedthesouthEasternRegionPrincipal’sforum,inMelbourne.Wehadanumberofguestspeakers,fromCanadaandEngland,speakingaboutthelatesttrendsineducation.
Developingstudentvoiceandimprovingteacherswerethemainthemesoftheweek.LookingatwhatwearedoingatSwanny,Ifeelweareontherighttrack.

Swan Reach it makes a very visual impact for road users.
Please be aware that the pedestrian refuge is a safe crossing area where pedestrians must give way to
oncoming traffic.
