swakara

Originally from Central Asia since 1400 BC, the unique Persian lamb was brought to

Namibia more than a century ago. Ever since it has been bred in the Kalahari Desert,

where highly skilled Namibian farmers have developed farming techniques that in-

volve specialised breeding standards and conditions. Today, swakara is a breed sig-

nificantly different to that of Central Asia. The excellent standard of pelts produced

in Namibia can be found nowhere else in the world, making the swakara brand and

swakara pelts some of the most coveted fur in the world.

swakara is sold exclusively at Kopenhagen Fur’s April and September auctions.

Thefeatures

ofswakara

The most significant feature of a swakara pelt is its curls forming a surface tracery.

The pattern of swakara is flat, silky and elegant and very appealing to touch. The

shapes, dimensions and combinations of curls are the main characteristics of the

quality of a pelt. As swakara is being associated with the exclusive appeal of lustrous

sheen and truly distinctive pattern of compact curves and swirls, it comes as no sur-

prise that swakara is a very popular type of pelt amongst designers and fur producers.

The natural colour palette of swakara consists of black, grey, white and brown, but it

is possible to find over 200 different variations in tone. One grey coloured swakara

pelt can even feature over five natural tones.

High-end fashion choice

swakara has been seen on the international catwalk forming an integral part of de-

signer couture by Karl Lagerfeld, Prada, Gucci and Armani as well as vintage collec-

tions designed by Elsa Schiaparelli and others. With its velvety texture, swakara pelts

have become more versatile, lightweight and reversible, with numerous styles also

showing off their suede leather side. From winter coats, cocktail jackets and boleros

to inventive accents and trim, swakara is a fur perfect for high-end fashion. swakara

is a luxurious brand name worth watching.

swakara’s premier colour is white. The swakara assortment features a pelt that has a

natural milk colour. Only a few thousand of these milky white pelts are bred annually

– making them some of the most desirable pelts in the world. White swakara is there-

fore one of the most sought-after and valuable fur pelts in the world market today.

Remember to ask for the special swakara white label at Kopenhagen Fur’s April and

September auctions.

Aboutthe

designers

DaviD anDersen

David Andersen is one of Denmark’s most talented designers. Since his graduation

in 2004 he has won several prestigious design awards, both in Denmark and abroad.

He emerged as a fashion designer for both men and women, working at Dreams by

Isabell Kristensen while designing couture for artists and dance competitions in his

own name.

David Andersen is now fully focusing on his own design – designing couture and

ready-to-wear for both genders, though his men’s collection is most prominent on the

commercial scene. His designs feature dark colours, leather and a rough, edgy look.

Julien Fournié

After collaborating with luxury fashion houses such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Claude

Montana among others, Julien Fournié established his own brand in 2009 carrying

his name.

Conceiving fashion as part of a wider design universe, he has based all of his strate-

gic developments around the laboratory of Paris couture, its know-how and its need

to define new aesthetics. His collections are known for expressing original visions of

elegance. Folds, anatomical cuts and drapes compose an ode to femininity in each of

the sensuous silhouettes Julien Fournié composes.

For this year’s swakara collection a special technique was developed to make the

swakara stretchable, thereby creating whole new uses of the pelts. Julien Fournié

also used the technique for the swakara styles in his A/W 13 collection.

KopenhagenStudio

Kopenhagen Studio is Kopenhagen Fur’s creative centre. At the heart of Kopenhagen

Studio is the workshop where highly skilled furriers explore and experiment with new

ideas and techniques in fur. The workshop welcomes both the most famous, estab-

lished designers and the unknown, up-coming designers. All fur styles in this cata-

logue have been developed in cooperation with Kopenhagen Studio.

Sustainablefur

Swakara is a robust breed, able to thrive despite the dry desert conditions in the

southern parts of Namibia. The sheep stomp grass and plant seeds into the ground,

contributing to the regeneration of the arid soil. In addition to fur, swakara sheep pro-

vide meat, milk, wool and leather to the rural communities.

swakara is a high quality eco fur, highly regarded as a long-term investment in terms

of style and durability.

Farmingethics

swakara farmers in Namibia comply to a set of ethical principles - designed to en-

hance the welfare of swakara sheep. By adhering to these principles, Namibian farm-

ers are committed to the highest moral standards regarding animal welfare. Proud

owners of swakara fur garments can be assured of a quality eco-product produced in

line with international standards.
