On the basis off raw materials origin the sutures may also be classified as :

Natural : the suture threads derived from collagen from mammalian intestines. I. E. Silk, catgut .

Synthetic suture : these sutures are synthesized from non natural sources .Expect catgut and silk nearly all the available sutures can be considered as synthetic sutures.

On the basis of material and suture structure sutures can be divided as monofilament and multi filament.

Mono filament : These sutures have a single fiber or filament extending, thoroughantthe length of the suture.

Multifilament : these suture ate made-up of multiple filaments assembled in different ways . These suture have better knotsecurity .

SURGICAL NEEDLES

There are several shapes of surgical needles. Straight Half curved or ski¼ circle3/8 circle5/8 circleCompound curve.

Needles may also be classified by their point geometry; example include

Taper- Needle body is round and taper smoothly to a point.

Cutting – Needle body I triangular and has Sharpened cutting edge on the inside .

Reverse cutting - cutting edge on the outside. Trocar point on taper cut- Needle body is round

and tapered , but ends is a small triangular cutting point.

Blunt points for sewing friable tissues. Side cutting or spatula points- flat on top and

bottom with a cutting edge along the front to one side used for eye surgery’s
