New School Meals Service Planned roll out—Monday 4th February

The Governors have previously written to you to let you know that they would be appointing a new school meals provider in order to offer

increased choice and flexibility at a competitive price. We are excited to let you know that our new school meal provider is Dolce Schools

Catering.

The benefits that Dolce offer are as follows

An increased meal option choice

An increased flexibility of booking (for example one off meals)

An online booking system where Parents can choose their child’s meal

A direct payment system between parents and Dolce (bypassing the school office)

A reduction in current cost per meal to parents (from £2.82 per meal to £2.30 per meal)

A removal of the current need for the school budget to subsidise the cost of KS1 Meals (currently £2000 per term)

Your child will be bringing home an important letter of welcome from Dolce today.

It is very important that you read this so that you understand the major changes which are beginning to take place.

Even if your child does not currently take a school meal, we would recommend that you register with Dolce and set up a

‘Live Kitchen Account’ as they may choose to do so in the future and/or may occasionally forget their packed lunch.

Payments will be made by yourselves DIRECT TO DOLCE using your new Live Kitchen Account and can either be by Direct Debit or by

Credit/Debit card. From the point at which we move to Dolce (scheduled for Monday 4th February) we will NOT BE USING PARENTPAY

FOR SCHOOL MEALS PAYMENTS once we move to Dolce.

You can find out more about Dolce by visiting www.dolce.co.uk/catering/education

There is an opportunity for you to come and find out about the new meals service on Thursday 24th January at 2.45 when David

Fleming, Area Manager, will make a presentation and be on hand to answer your questions.

Learning to Love Reading We wrote to you at the beginning of the school year and shared with you our

plans to help children learn to Love Reading. We made a commitment that every

day in every class children will listen to a story or a novel. Obviously younger

children listen to lots of short stories which develop into longer novels as they

progress through school.

We have now begun another exciting term of learning. All children will be read to

at least daily as we believe that, to be read to and hearing how to read ,are an

important part of becoming a skilled reader. It would be hugely beneficial if chil-

dren had their own copies of the ‘class novels’ for this term.

YR YR will be reading lots of stories about Pirates - here are some ideas;

Pirates love underpants

Pirate Pete and his smelly feet

Captain Sparklebeard

Y1 Y1 will be reading lots of stories about bees - here are some ideas;

The Very Greedy Bee—Steve Smallman

Winnie the Pooh and the Wrong Bees—AA Milne

Bee and Me—Alison Jay

Y2 Roald Dahl favourites: Fantastic Mr Fox, Billy and the Minpins

and possibly The Hodgeheg - Dick King-Smith

Some other ideas for books are:

Beegu

Man on the Moon

Bog Baby

The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark

Y3 Y3The Orchard Book of Greek Myths

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Y4 The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.

Y5 Beetle Boy—MG Leonard

Y6 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' by Kiran Millwood Hargrave in the

first half term and 'Phoenix' by S F Said in the second half term.

NEW YEAR REMINDERS School Uniform We pride ourselves on the appearance of our

school and this includes school uniform. There is plenty of choice

within our uniform code for children to express their individuali-

ty— please note that we do not encourage children to wear

brightly coloured trainers and shoes with flashing lights can be a

great distraction in lessons!

Attendance School starts promptly at 8.55. We ask that chil-

dren are not taken out of school for routine appointments (such as

dental/medical/optician). Proof of any appointment during the

school day is always required. If you fail to provide this, your

child’s absence may be recorded as unauthorised which could lead

to referral to the Area Prevention Service. If your child is absent,

you should notify school by phone before 9.30 am.

Lunch boxes We have trolleys to keep lunch boxes on for each

class. Packed lunches are stored during the morning in a cool place

and children are asked not to keep their lunch in the cloakroom

where there are heating pipes. We therefore ask that when your

child brings a lunchbox to school, it is small enough to fit on the

trolleys. The trolleys take standard size children’s lunchboxes but

are not built to store large bags.

PE bags and kit Every child has a named school PE bag which

should be brought to school every Monday and taken home for

washing every Friday. Please ensure PE kit is labelled with your

child’s name. Children from Y1-Y6 need black shorts, white T shirt

and pumps/trainers. You might like to send them with dark col-

oured jogging bottoms and a school purple sports hoodie when the

weather gets colder. Your child will be able to tell you whether

they are planning inside or outside PE this term. We do not have

the space to store large unwieldy bags and ask that children do not

bring them into school—school book bags can be purchased for

home learning/reading books. Jewellery including hooped earrings

are not permitted. Pierced earrings should be studs.

Replacement PE Bags (£5.50) & Water bottles (£2.00)

Book bags (£9.00)

Payment via uniform service on parent pay

Medicines in School If your child needs to take a pre-

scribed medicine during the school day, please see Mrs Wallace in

the school office to complete a form. Non prescribed medications

(such as cough sweets) are not allowed in school.

‘New to you’ uniform shop. ‘New to you’ uniform is available for a

small donation to school. If you would like to browse our current

stock please pop into the school office.

LOST PROPERTY We keep lost property items in the Y4

cloakroom. At the end of each term we have a good sort out and all

named items are returned to their owners—un named items are

washed and put into our ‘new to you’ store or donated to charity.

Family Fundraiser Group

In an ever increasingly challenging funding climate, we

want to ensure that our children get the best provision

possible at our lovely school and our mission is to raise

money to ensure this happens. We have some major pro-

jects in mind like totally redeveloping the playground—

replacing the trim trail and more! We’d like to develop

the Hive (the old Y2 classroom) to make it a place for

parents to meet, courses to run (and tea and coffee to

be shared!) We have some smaller projects in mind too

like providing a constant stream of lovely new books for

our school library

There are lots of ways that you can get involved, de-

pending of course on the time you have available—please

contact Jill Taylor to find out more.

You can do this in a number of ways

[email protected] or [email protected]

On Facebook -Family Fundraisers ( Sutton CP

School PTA)

Or in the playground most mornings and after

school

We are currently seeking two new members to join our

core Family Fundraising Committee. This would mean

attending 1 meeting every 3 months and being part of a

fun team that help to develop and deliver PTA duties in

school. Please email either one of us if you would like

more info.

There are roles for all parents; we are always looking for

helpers, those who can support events and activities-

please contact us should you wish to be involved.

Kiera and Jill

Y6 SATS Calling all parents of Y6 pupils.

Ms D would like to invite you to come along to the Y6

classroom At 6pm on Wednesday 16 January to find out

how best to support your child in the run up to their

SATS tests in May.

We would strongly advise you to attend if at all possible

as the information provided will really help your child.

Severe Weather

Snow Procedures 11 Jan 19

*** UPDATED DEC 2018 ***

Weather reports suggest that during the next few weeks we can expect some severe weather

conditions.

We make every attempt to keep school open during severe weather, however as a school we need to be

prepared. Our priority is the health and safety of both staff and pupils. If and when severe weather arrives, it

could cause disruption on the roads. The staff who have long journeys may be unable to get to school.

In the event of severe weather, a decision will be made by 7.45am whether the school will open. This

information will be then shared in the following ways:-

Online at: School website: www.wherelearnersgrow.co.uk

School Facebook Page

North Yorkshire County Council website: www.northyorks.gov.uk

Stray FM website: www.strayfm.com/schools/school-closures

Twitter: @SuttonCPSchool

Radio: BBC Radio Leeds 92.4FM or 103.7FM www.bbc.co.uk/radioleeds

You can play your part by:

DO

Print this information and keep in a safe place.

Make sure your child comes dressed appropriately for the weather outside everyday. (Coat, hat, gloves, wel-

lies)

If you can’t arrive on time, come in when it is safe to do so.

Remember that, unless the weather is really severe, the children are encouraged to get out into the fresh air

and have a ‘run around’. If it snows we will often go outside to play in the park!

DON’T

Phone school as this blocks our telephone line.

Phone radio stations for information; they will broadcast details regularly.

Assume we are open/closed just because other local schools are. Whilst we do liaise with other schools, ulti-

mately the decision is based on the safety of our school family.

Send children to school until you have checked. We will understand if on such days children arrive late.
