Your partner in renewable energy A complete solution

A partner you can trust

We are a trusted energy partner with a proven track record. In the renewable energy sector, we offer solutions ranging from specialist advice to a fully integrated design, supply and installation service for new and existing buildings.

Value

Cost is a primary factor when awarding contracts. We add value that extends beyond the installation phase and throughout our partnership with a client, raising the overall levels of return on investment.

Our ethos is based on a long term commitment to the UK energy market. We help tenants reduce their energy consumption and bills.

Funding

We help you to identify and apply for grants for the purchase and installation of eligible microgeneration technologies.

We have funded a number of large social housing PV projects where councils and tenants both benefit financially. Subject to market conditions and legislation, we anticipate being in a position to develop similar ownership structures in the future.

In years to come, new housing developments and even existing housing stock will be very different from today. Using technology available now, the occupant will understand and be able to optimise energy consumption.

Our microgeneration team is working with a number of local authorities on innovative projects to better demonstrate these low carbon technologies, so customers can understand the issues and adapt behaviour.

We supply a range of renewable microgeneration technologies to suit the needs of specific properties.

Meters, monitoring and communication

We supply Smart Generation Meters for all ground source heat pumps and solar PV installations, to generate key performance data.

We help you monitor your portfolio through web access and supply monthly performance reports.

The data collected from the meters facilitates detailed analysis, helping us manage generation portfolios and Feed-in Tariff/Renewable Heat Incentive administration for clients.

The information also enables us to flag any potential problems, investigate the causes and help to put them right quickly.

Our platform supports multiple meter types, allowing for greater flexibility in meter procurement and the potential to retrofit your existing meter portfolio onto the platform.

Operation & Maintenance (O&M)

Optimising the operating life of renewable energy technologies shortens paybacks and improves the return on your investment.

Planned and reactive maintenance regimes, aligned with performance monitoring is therefore essential.

Our team of engineers ensure that both the demands of the asset owner and tenant are met.

We help our clients save energy, reduce costs and lower carbon emissions by installing onsite renewable microgeneration technologies.

Considerable opportunities exist to reduce energy consumption and reliance on fossil fuel with low carbon technologies.

An integrated installation at Tai Ceredigion

We have recently installed new heating systems that will save the residents at 41 properties in Ceredigion, Mid-Wales, nearly £4,000 on their combined annual fuel bills1.

The systems will also create a carbon saving of 67.44 tonnes – the equivalent of taking 35 cars off the road for a year2.

These new heating systems use ground source heat pumps, as well as wet radiators and solar PV panels. This integrated approach, using multiple renewable technologies, sets a high standard in energy efficiency.

We are installing a further 17 ground source heat pumps, 33 air source heat pumps and 32 solar PV panels.

Making renewable energy add up environmentally

We can install technology that will help you meet environmental standards and hit your carbon reduction targets. We educate tenants and the local community about environmental issues and provide information about carbon savings.

We will soon be able to offer web-based energy tracking technology. This will enable tenants and landlords to see how much energy has been generated and how much they have saved.

Tenants have benefited from free electricity and the social landlords have received a roof rental income.

Making renewable energy add up financially

We have partnered with a number of social landlords on solar PV projects where tenants have benefited from free electricity and the social landlord receives a roof rental income.

We are committed to entering into similar funded projects in the future, where client funding shortfalls would otherwise jeopardise a project.

To be accredited for theGovernment’s Feed-in Tariff, whichentitles you to generate revenuesfrom electricity produced, you requirea microgeneration certificationscheme (MCS) certificate. As an MSCaccredited installer we can provideyou with this.

Leicester energy efficiency scheme gets solar-powered

We are working with Leicester City Council to fund a multi million pound scheme that will deliver energy efficiency solutions to over 800 homes, which will save tenants up to £600 a year on their energy bills1.

Under the scheme, E.ON will fund and fit solar panels to 550 homes, with the costs covered through the Government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme. In return, the homeowners benefit from savings on the electricity generated.

The energy saving measures include new ‘A’ rated boilers, external solid wall insulation and loft insulation under the Government’s Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).

Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) funding

CESP is a key initiative announced as part of the Government’s Home Energy Saving Programme. Through the development of community based partnerships involving Local Authorities, it provides £350 million of funding to improve energy efficiency standards and reduce energy bills in lower income UK households.

Further tenant and financial benefits are available if renewable energy technologies are installed at the time of CESP measures.

Market conditions have a major bearing on whether a project can be funded by our clients. Where clients are not in a position to invest, we support large low carbon projects by funding, owning and operating the technologies.

1 Annual cost savings are based on a household using 34,317kWh/yr (before renovation) at a cost of 3.158p/kWh (including VAT). Savings made up from increasing loft insulation from 50mm to 250mm, replacing a G-Rated Boiler with an A-Rated Boiler and adding external solid wall insulation improving the U-value of the wall to 0.35 from 2.0.

8Making renewable energy add up

Making renewable energy add up socially

We provide communication material and hold local events that engage tenants, raise awareness and educate them about renewable energy.

Our installations can also support the local supply chain; training and employing local people, boosting the recovery of the local economy and helping the local community.

Boosting the local economy in Nottingham

E.ON worked in partnership with Nottingham City Council to install solar panels on 600 homes in Aspley. The residents taking part could see their household energy bills fall by £120 per year1.

As well as reducing energy bills for people in this deprived area of the city we helped to boost Nottingham’s economy and supported the local community by providing jobs and training placements for local people. There were up to 20 training placements for trainee electricians at E.ON’s Engineering Academy. Temporary jobs were also created for a quantity surveyor, a storesperson and an administration assistant.

Reducing tenants’ energy bills to help tackle fuel poverty is an excellent social investment. Typically our solar PV installations save tenants around a third* on their electricity bills.

Our installations supportthe local supply chain, localemployment and the community.

E.ON is one of the UK’s leading power and gas companies, generating and distributing electricity and retailing power and gas. We employ around 10,000 people in the UK and more than 88,000 worldwide.

The Sustainable Energy business delivers low carbon energy solutions to the public and private sector, with particular emphasis on UK Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs).

About E.ON

Engaging with tenants and giving them the right information at the right time is vital. As Carbon Emission Reduction Target (Cert)/Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC) funding partners for loft and cavity wall insulation we have many years’ experience of working with social housing tenants, so we understand their specific needs and concerns.

We have developed communications materials, which have proved effective in supporting tenant engagement.
