FCA is one of the major international NGO's in Finland. It carries out development, relief and interchurch aid on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Finland and its congregations.

Assistance is given irrespective of the recipient's political orientation, religion, ethnic background or nationality.


FinnChurchAid does advocacy work on behalf of the world’s poorest people for life’s basic human rights and dignity. All their programs emphasize the individual’s responsibility.

The programmes overall development objective is: to improve and enhance the local democratic processes and good government through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)

to investigate what are the technical options for arranging the internet connectivity and local area networks

to study earlier experiences with CIDELs in other countries and to find out other options for using ICT for rural development



how the local population has experienced the CIDELs elsewhere or to evaluate how the gender balance has realised in using ICT (a social impact assessment)

to study the technical options for constructing the direct communication channels


4. Sunila Oy

Sunila Oy is a sulphate pulp mill situated at the mouth of the River Kymi in Kotka, Finland. They produce clean, fully-bleached and semi-bleached pulp for paper industry.

at the moment, most of the processes at the mill conform to the BAT (Best Available Technology) level

5. Mekong –river research project

several projects going on in the Mekong river area in the Water Resourses Laboratory in the dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering



MRC/WUP-FIN project has developed several integrated water management modelling tools that combine data from ecosystem processes, environmental, social, political and economic information with hydrodynamic models.

This provides…



holistic method and viewpoint for the assessment of the impacts of various water management options on natural resources and peoples livelihoods

negotiating flow rules and equitable water utilization among the riparian countries



Assignment: to use the new integrated water management model as a tool to evaluate environmental / social impacts


6. Cities Beyond Oil –competition

Assignemnt: to participate in an international ideas competition for cities beyond oil proposed by the Swedish Government

The competition is arranged in collaboration with UN-HABITAT, targeted for university students



The competition task: deliver ideas for how cities can develop sustainable, energy efficient urban fabric, beyond the era of oil – development proposal for a city.

Urban form, transportation, infrastructure, urban life styles… in different city levels
