sustainable lifestyle
TRANSCRIPT
At the World Climate Summit held in Paris, our Prime Minister committed
to a sustainable lifestyle as a way to reduce the global warming.
To make this commitment a reality, we have conceptualized a novel idea to rejuvenate the rural economy with a carbon negative agricultural produce that can generate tremendous job opportunities at the village level, which will stop farmers from committing suicide and mass migration from villages to the cities. Using better cultivation method, like water harvesting, producing bio charcoal and compost to increase land fertility organically, we aim to reduce the dependency on hazardous fossil fuels, plastics, cottons, paper from wood pulp, concrete and other degradable products, that causes havoc to our ecology.
From food, cloth, paper, building material, biodegradable plastics, fuel oil; everything should be generated from the fields of rural India and processed at the village level to sustain the ever growing needs of the modern civilization.
On 19th March, our PM at the Pusa Agricultural Fair suggested the farmers to not only do farming but also do something else.......
This project could be that- “farming + something else" our PM was referring to, and could also fulfill our obligation to create a sustainable lifestyle.

since hemp has a low lignin content compared to wood,
it can be turned to pulp easily.
no chlorine bleaching is required as this pulp is
naturally very bright. otherwise in traditional paper mills, a toxic chemical called dioxin is released into the environment due to the chlorine bleach. hemp is also compatible with the new soy-based binders rather than the harsh binders that give off formaldehyde.
this reduces air pollution and health hazards to
human and animal life.
the quality of paper obtained from hemp is more durable and does not lose its color even after many
years.
hemp paper can be recycled 7 or 8 times, as
compared to only 2 – 3 times for tree-based paper.

pressing these seeds produce highly nutritional oil, perfect for human consumption.
it can be mixed with other foods or make ice cream and many other products and can be
simply sprayed on anything and everything. deflated seedcake from which oil has been extracted, and the outer shells, are very good source of proteins, vitamins, fiber and other nutrients. has a tremendous market potential.
another health benefit is that since oil and skin have the same ph value, when applied as an
ointment, the essential fatty acids completely
penetrates the outer skin layer, thereby,
regenerating , nourishing and encouraging a healthy, moist skin and preventing the skin from sagging due to
ageing.

as a carbon negative and versatile raw material, hemp industry needs less toxic chemicals to process and produces far less toxic wastes compared to any other industry. due to negative campaign, demonization and criminalization for the last 70-80 years, hemp industries could not be investigated by the scientists properly and thoroughly. the rate of development of all other industries at this time period shows a phenomenon technological growth unmatched in human history, whereas hemp has been neglected for reasons other then science! the day decorticator machine was invented in 1937, and being termed as the new billion dollar crop, hemp cultivation was banned. the situation has changes dramatically now. due to the global warming, nations and industries are searching for new biodegradable materials that is sustainable, easy on ecology and produces least carbon foot print. the re-introduction of hemp and its thousands of products will definitely change the way we are living in. the ability of hemp to produce almost everything is a big advantage for us to do a green business sustainably and changing the lives of rural as well as urban folks positively and permanently.
adhering to all green norms and going beyond to keep the carbon footprint as low as possible, preferably negative, should be the working principals. new scientific technics and research for new variety of plant and products are vital to fulfill the demand of a thriving economy

approximately 25% of bast fiber and 60% of woody core can be decorticated from good quality, dry retted straw for fiber, before pollination is the best time for harvesting
its cultivation does not need any particular climate or soil
if properly done, multiple harvesting is possible, annually, at many places
hemp is one of the fastest growing biomasses known, producing up to 4.5 tons of dry matter per acre.
the Hemp Industries Association (HIA) shows that the total retail value of hemp products in the U.S. in 2013 was $581 million. which includes food and body products, clothing, auto parts, building materials, and other products.
oil crops and fiber crops are two different varieties crops for oil takes 90 to 120 days to mature I acre produces app. 400 kg of seeds, from which app. 100l tr of oil and app. 250kg of protein power can be generated. the seeds are used for oil, nutritional protein food supplement, high quality ice cream crops for fiber takes 70 to 90 days to mature. the crop yields 4.5 tons of dry stock 250 kg of leaves, producing 30 kg of cbd oil as medicines, for insect and fungus repellent with cow and buffalo urine (as pesticide) and 200 kg of biomass 3 tons of woody core for biomass and cellulose industry, cement, paper, plastic, particle board and specially in nano carbon filters and nano capacitor. 1.2 tons of fiber for textile and technical textile, insulation/fiberglass industries.
over thirty countries produce industrial hemp - china, russia, france, canada, australia, austria, denmark, egypt, finland, germany, britain, italy, japan, hungary, korea, netherland, poland, romania, uruguay, spain, turky, siylvinia, south aftica, sweden, switzerland, new zeland…..

production methodology
testing of soil is a must before cultivating. hemp can be grown on a wide variety of soil types. hemp prefers a sufficiently deep, well-aerated soil with a pH of 7.2 to 7.5, along with good moisture and nutrient holding capacity. this can easily be achieved through organic method with bio charcoal and compost. a fine, firm seedbed is required for fast, uniform germination of hemp seeds. conventional seedbed preparation and drilling are probably ideal. the seedlings will not emerge uniformly if the seed is placed at a depth greater than 50mm or 2inches.
hemp field produces a very large bulk of plant material in a short vegetative period, so increasing water and nutrients produces a faster growth.
hemp is an extremely efficient weed suppressor. no chemicals are needed for growing this crop. industrial hemp is a low maintenance crop. a normal stand of 200 to 300 plants per square meter shades out the weeds, leaving the fields weed-free at harvest.
soil should be fertilized with organic fertilizer, bio charcoal and compost. added benefits will be the carbon sequestration performed by putting organically produced charcoal and organic waste in to the soil

multi level farming
India’s coal requirement for the year 2016 = 80,00,00,000 tons India's petroleum oil requirement for same = 20,00,00,000 tons total = 1 billion tons now I acre of hemp biomass produces 4 tons of biofuel and 100 kg of seed oil and a few hybrid can give you 1 ton of seed oil. for 1 billion tons of fuel we need 1/2 million sq km of land if we use multiple level, cloud technology and hydroponics, we can generate 100 times more seeds oil and biomass per year, India's total land 3.3 million sq km 4th national report submitted to UNCCD secretariat stats : about 69 percent of India is dry land, arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid and these areas are heavily populated, 70% of India's poor, marginal and small farmers lives in these areas that means 2.4 million sq km is dry, arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid and 1.6 million sq km is cultivated land, (around 53%) so if we cultivate one crop on these land, we can replace all the coal for power generation and fossil fuel for transport, plastic and other industries. as hemp can grow on arid land easily, plus adding organic nutrients in these soil, will be the ultimate utilization these land and increasing the productivity of those downtrodden people who lives there, will give rise to a economically healthy village community and reduce suicide and migration.

producing hemp for seeds as food seed oil as food, medicine, soaps and lotions oil extracted seed cake for food pulp & cellulose as raw materials for different industries like paper & plastic
later on additions: fiber for cloth woody shiv for hempcrete bio mass for oil hemp nano carbons for super capacitor & filters
in collaboration with the government, we want to start a pilot project on hemp business with farmers cooperatives at village level. also giving them the knowhow to make bio charcoal and compost from organic waste sourcing locally and increasing the fertility of the soil organically and managing the waste at village level so that the runoff will be less polluted, and waste will be managed easily.
what we need : procurement of hemp seeds for harvesting licenses required at all levels setting up a 4 tier cooperative society with green house, factory and with research facility to produce the end products and create new breeds related to the market demand marketing and brand building exercises as the possibility is infinite, provisions for expansion for both agricultural infrastructure and finish products, should always be the priority
