Sustainable Business Initiative - Executive Education

Rethink knowledge. Impact your world

Sustainability Strategy for the Public Sector

Scotland’s Parliament sits at the foot of Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile in front of the spectacular Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags.

3Sustainable Business Initiative Sustainability Strategy for the Public Sector

Increasingly, public sector organisations are becoming key players in the sustainability agenda. This is being recognised by governments across the globe as, for instance, local councils, municipal departments and governments develop initiatives to deliver their services more sustainably.

Simply noticing the buzz around ‘sustainable cities’ alludes to the importance of sustainability in the public domain. As such, every core decision, from building environmentally conscious infrastructure to providing essential social services, involves sustainable thinking. Importantly, these activities are also part of public sector organisations’ overall strategy – which must be managed accordingly with vision and insight.

What makes sustainability in public sector particularly challenging is that it does not fit the standard set of considerations that for-profit businesses face. Instead, the public sector is unique in how it addresses these issues and in terms of its stakeholders.

This programme is tailored to fit these unique challenges by providing a unique set of tools. We have devised a programme that brings both vision and operational insight to managing sustainability within the public sector. We have, in cooperation with public sector experts, created this programme to not only educate public sector leaders, but to power public sector organisations to bring sustainable living to its ‘customers’ – the citizens.

The Business School are part of the top 1% of business schools in the world to hold triple accreditation. AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA have all given the School its prestigious seal of approval.
