    1.0 INTRODUCTION.

Non-financial reporting or sustainability reporting in the annual financial report have

been another matter of interest to the stakeholders over the past two decades . Sustainability

report is defined as the report that makes connection between corporate financial report and

environmental issue, social and governance behavior transparent. These non financial items

include the contribution of Corporate to environmental , social, corporate ethics, and

    governance.

Firms would be seen to be transparent in reporting their annual report when the non-

financial item reported in their annual report. However, the non-financial reporting is not a must

for every company. Firm will report this non financial item in their while annual report if only that

item is importance to the company stakeholder.

To reporting the non-financial item in the company annual report is currently voluntary,

it offers some benefit to company especially in term of stake holder engagement and reputation.

In Malaysia to reporting the non-financial item in the firm annual report is not required and even

there is no act and regulations by government to require the non-financial reporting to reported

    in the annual report.

Since 2007, the stock exchange Bursa Malaysia has put a condition on the firms listed

for sustainability reporting starting December 2007 , followed by the speech of the former prime

minister of Malaysia 's fifth Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi expressed the need for companies

listed on the Bursa Malaysian to report their CSR initiatives . In Malaysia, the Corporate Social

Report is in priority to the report . Since the enforced requirement to report sustainable report ,

currently , the majority of listed companies have implemented in their annual report.

Among the items included in the sustainability report is concerned with the role of the

community or corporate social responsibility ( CSR ) , the governance of the company to

stakeholder or corporate governance and corporate responsibility for environmental care. These

three things are fundamental to the sustainability report in Malaysia , however, reports on CSR

are more concerned by the majority of companies in Malaysia because it is required by the

    Bursa Malaysian.

CSR or corporate social responsibility, as defined by United Nations Industrial

Development Organization(UNIDO) as a management concept whereby companies integrate

social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their

stakeholders. CSR is generally understood as a way to achieve balance in corporate economic,

environmental and social imperatives . Popular examples of CSR is charity , give scholarships

and provide the best service for customer.

Apart from the company's contribution to society , the effectiveness of the system of

rules , practices and processes by which a company is directed and controlled . Corporate

governance essentially involves balancing the interests of the many stakeholders in a company

    - these include its shareholders , management, customers , suppliers , financiers , government

and the community. It 's called as the Corporate Governance ( CG ) . in this case , a company 's

value is based on management, action plans and internal controls to measure performance and

    corporate disclosure.

Environmental sustainability has become one of the new issues hit to many

companies. The issue of how the impact of its operations on the environment and what their

contribution to the environment is also a concern of the stakeholders and society. Therefore, the

sustainability of the environment is also seen as a need to measure the company's concern for

the environment. Among the issues that matter she is often seen as moving towards green

technology, the use of renewable resources and recycling.

2.0 THE CHALENGES OFSUSTAINABILITY REPORT AMONG COMPANIES IN MALAYSIA.

The need of the importance the companies listed in Bursa Malaysia for sustainability

reporting is relatively new compared to other developed countries. Therefore, there are still

some challenges faced by the firm to report on their sustainability into the annual report. Among

the challenges faced are There is no common format or general standard for reporting on

sustainability into the annual report, sustainability is still regarded as unimportant by most

companies in Malaysia and the enforcement of the sustainability report is not comprehensive,

especially to the SME industrial firms.

Sustainability reporting is something that is new in Malaysia, most of the companies in

Malaysia only report their CSR activities only, for the environment, most companies did not

disclose in their annual report, which shows that there is no activity on the companies in

protecting the environment . The key factor to this issue is, most companies are not educated

about how to report and undertake activities of their company to care for the environment. Now

the agency is active in creating awareness among the firms in the importance of environmental

sustainability is ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has provided

guidelines for environmental sustainability to be practiced in the companies in Malaysia.

According to a report by PwC Malaysia, nearly 81% of companies stated that

sustainability is very relevent to their business, but it was not until half of them had to put

sustainability strategy in line with the other objectives of a business . The report also spell out

that only a small fraction of the companies that make regular boardroom agenda. Although there

was an increase of nearly 80% of companies run sustainability, but only 26% only in accordance

with standards set by the international dang. Among the factors that led to sustainability is not a

primary objective of most of the company's business objectives in line with the other is the lack

of exposure and pressure from governments to companies to conduct such environmental

    sustainability.

Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) in 2009, states that the

environmental sustainability of SMEs in Malaysia is still low and is not exhaustive. In fact, forSMEs in Malaysia, sustainability are still new and still in a dilemma. As most SMEs are not listed

in Bursa Malaysia, the sustainability reporting in the annual report is not required. However, the

various parties see the need and importance of SMEs also report their sustainability in order to

see the transparency and reliability of their business, particularly in the care of the environment.

In Malaysia, the sustainability report is one element that is still new to the

practice in the company in Malaysia. The assumption that the annual report only

economic report the matter needs to be changed. Thus government action in requiring

all companies listed on the stock exchange to report corporate social responsibility is a

wise move and get upgradeable in the future to also require other issues reported in the

    company's annual report in malaysia.

This can be seen in the report with respect to the environment when it is not

seen as something that needs to be reported by the company in Malaysia, while the

report with respect to the environment is very important to ensure that each company

contributes to the improvement of environmental quality in this country. Thereforeenforcement and further research should be undertaken immediately report to the wider

    sustainability practiced throughout Malaysia.
