SUSTAINABILITY REPORT| 2019 46 Since its incepon in 1922, the Company’s contribuon towards CSR has been an impor- tant part of our core values. During these long- years, we have taken exhausve iniaves in this realm and connue to find ways and means to meaningfully contribute towards community welfare acvies as enumerated below: Aock Sahara Foundaon (ASF) a. ASF is a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO), sponsored by ARL. ASF has been help- ing and supporting the down trodden segment of community through its different welfare programs. b. ASF sustains itself through a well-equipped medium size Industrial Stitching Section which is the main source of income to meet its mani- festo. The programmes/welfare schemes undertaken by ASF mainly include but not limited to Apprenticeship Program, Scholar- ship Scheme, Marriage Support Fund, Poor Patient Fund, Collection and Distribution of Zakat and various welfare and community development projects like women skill devel- opment, capacity building and skill enhance- ment. During the year under review Rs 20.86 million were spent on these program- mes/schemes. c. With the view to augment income of ASF and to provide an opportunity to the local cottage industry (mostly based on the skills imparted to poor women of the area by ASF) as well as recreation to local population, the Company organizes a grand ASF Meena Bazaar annually on its premises. This family event is whole heartedly participated by all and sundry of the surrounding communities. d. ASF is committed to empower and strength- en the poor women of our society by imparting different skills and creating awareness to enable them to become earning hands for their families. The programmes for this purpose include stitching,hand and machine embroidery, “adda” work, training as beauti- cian, computer training etc. e. A comprehensive programme has been initiated under the umbrella of ASF for the promotion of art and practice of horticulture and to impart knowledge and training to the gardeners. f. During the year, ASF also conducted the awareness session on tree plantation campaign, seminar on dengue awareness, awareness session on kitchen gardening, international malaria day and sports gala for female employ- ees. ASF also has a play group level school oper- ating on “no profit no loss basis”. Community Welfare The Company sponsors well maintained play- grounds for hockey, cricket and football along with other sports facilies. The Company patronizes parks in the vicinity, provides potable water and health care to the surrounding com- munies. The Company provides administrave support to schools and mosques in the surrounding area. The Company gives financial- assistance to an NGO working for the beer- ment of the visually impaired. The Company arranges limited quanty of fuel to a Golf Club for promoon of Golf. The Company also pays annual grant to adjoin- ing Union Councils of Morgah and Kotha Kalan. In collaboraon with its subsidiary company, Aock Hospital (Pvt.) Limited, the Company arranged free medical camp at Morgah, Rawal- pindi. The total expenditure on such acvies amounted to about Rs 7 million. Employment of Special Persons The Company not only provides equal employ- ment opportunies to special persons but takes an extra step to help them to earn respectable living. Emoluments to the tune of Rs 4.57 million were spent for this noble cause. Educaon/Training a. The Company is operang an extensive man- agement training program of 1 to 2 years for fresh graduates. b. The Company offers scholarships from class 6 to PhD level to employees’ children. During the year 39 scholarships were awarded and 33 brilliant students amongst employees’ children were recognized by awarding prizes. ARL in line with government’s initiative to curb use of plastic shopping bags has banned the use of plastic shopping bags in ARL campus area since August, 2019. To create awareness among employ-ees and local community multiple sessions were conducted. As an alternative to polythene/plastic bags ARL has established sale points for durable cloth bags on nominal charges as part of CSR and all shops in the area have been advised to use cloth/paper bags.

Industrial Relations/Workers WelfareThe Company extends maximum benefits to its employees and ensures cordial industrial relations through the Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA). In this context the Company extends following facilities:a. The Company provides highly subsidized foodthrough its dining facilities and wheat flour.b. The Company nominates on annual basis, four members each of Non-Management Staff along with their spouses or dependents through open ballot for performing Hajj and Umrah. The Company also nominates on annual basis, one non-Muslim worker along with spouse through open ballot for visiting their sacred places in Pakistan. The total cost incurred on this account was over Rs 5.23 million.c. The Company gives quarterly Good Perfor-mance and Long Service awards to its workers.d. The Company provides pick and drop for employees’ school and college going children.Academia- Industry LiaisonCollaboration between universities and indus-tries is critical for skills development, genera-tion, acquisition, adoption of knowledge (inno-vation and technology transfer), and promotion of entrepreneurship. Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) is a Public Limited Company and is a member of the largest & fully vertically integrat-ed group (the Attock Oil Group of Companies) in the oil & gas sector of Pakistan. Students of different universities, Colleges and other institu-tions have visited the Morgah Biodiversity Park for learning and to get knowledge about the biodiversity of Pothowar region. Islamabad

Gardening Club has visited to Morgah Biodiver-sity Park on October 26, 2019. A session on Grapes and Apricot pruning was arranged for the participants. A presentation about cultiva-tion and care of winter annual flowers was given at Morgah Club. While saying good bye to the participants, 200 Moringa plant saplings were distributed among all the guests. The members of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) also visited Morgah Biodiversity Park on November 23, 2019. After visit of park, every guest planted a Pine tree in the Park.Development and Impact of Infrastructure Investments and Services SupportedAvailability of potable water is a big issue in this region. To facilitate local community in this regard, ARL continued with its policy of provid-ing potable water to the surrounding population in the villages of Morgah, Kotha Kalan, Jhamra & to the welfare organization like SOS village, Deaf & Dumb School, other schools, Masjids and Churches. ARL being a social responsible com-pany, to avoid the current scenario of health issue, conduct the anti-virus spray to prevent dengue virus at Morgah. ARL is paying an annual contribution of Rs 200,000 to union council Morgah and Kotha Kalan other than provision of free of cost elec-tricity and gas connections to the area.Local community is also benefited by ARL's efforts to ensure cleanliness of the area and upkeep of roads in appropriate condition. The famous Morgah Biodiversity Park, developed and maintained through ARL support provides a

scenic look to the area besides preserving natu-ral habitat. Similarly, through pursuing its green plan, ARL has planted thousands of trees in the adjoining areas. Positive & Indirect Economic Impacts a. The Company’s annual contribution to the national exchequer in the form of taxes and duties amounted to over Rs 50.51 billion whileforeign exchange savings of US $ 189 million were achieved through import substitution and exports.

b. The Company not only operates on 100%indigenous crude oil thus providing a major outlet to more than 41 oilfields spread over the northern part of Pakistan but also remains the main source of petroleum products to the civil and defence sectors of the northern region of Pakistan. It is also a catalyst in the deployment of a large transportation fleet for crude oil and refined products movement.

Attock Institute of HorticultureAttock Refinery Limited (ARL) in collaboration with Attock Oil Company (AOC) has established an Institution for the promotion of art and practice of horticulture in general and to impart knowledge and training to gardeners and horticultural professionals in particular. The objective of this institute is to achieve excellence in the domains of Horticulture including Flori-culture and Landscaping on non-profit basis, to train Human Resource by building their capacity in the field of horticulture and enable them to seek employment through awarding certificates/ diplo-mas.The institute operates under the ambit of Attock Sahara Foundation (ASF) registered as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) and acts as center for training of horticulture and awareness about utilization of modern technologies in this field. Various training programs are being offered with affiliation of rele-vant organizations including Universities, Floriculture Department Punjab and Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA). All trainings in the facility are being conducted by qualified instructors through a fine mix of theoretical class room training and practical field work. In this context, scope of trainings includes the following;

As ARL is uniquely equipped to take on this noble cause in a cost effective manner and providing existing in-house office space, land and related facilities including equipment, laboratory and work-shops free of cost as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Similarly, the donation of Rs. Ten Million by The Attock Oil Company Limited and revenue generated from provision of services will help to run the institute in sustainable way.In future, for expansion the scope of training at AIH, collaboration with Departments of Wildlife, Live-stock, Fisheries and Agriculture will be enhanced.

Business Review & Assurance department (BR&A) keeping in view its vision “ The catalyst for improvement” strives to identify, evaluate and report all potential risks and vulnerabilities to management by analysing risks related to bad practices & corruption. The risk based reviews encompass controls assessment, material mis-statement and risk of frauds and errors at different levels. The purpose is achieved by conducting Process Reviews, Compliance reviews and follow-ups throughout the year. International Standards for Professional Practice of Internal Auditing through Standard 2120 (Risk Management) requires that Internal Audit must evaluate potential for occurrence of fraud and how organization manages fraud risk. Keeping in view the above requirement, section wise fraud risk assessment was conducted by BR&A in coordination with concerned management. On the basis of this assessment, sections which are more vulnerable to fraud were identified and ranked as high risk & vulnerable further taken up for detailed review and probing in phase wise manner. The company pursues an elaborated policy of Ethics and Business Practices and every employ-ee is bound to adhere to it, hence 100% of oper-ations are assessed for risk on this aspect.If employee is found culpable or involved in other malpractices, he/she is exposed to strict discipli-nary action resulting into termination/dismissal from employment. One person has been termi-

nated being involved in malpractices contrary to company’s policy of Ethics and Business practic-es. ARL also has a whistle blowing policy to address any type of malpractice in all of its activities. Please refer to 2nd chapter for details.No case for anti-competitive behavior, antitrust and monopoly practices were identified. Hun-dred percent of employees and all other stake-holders have been communicated about the organization's anti-corruption policies and procedures through Sustainability Report and ARL’s website etc. informally.All the members of governance body are trained on anti-corruption. All the employees have been imparted training on organizational core values and they have also signed the policy of code of conduct. Regarding anti-corruption measures ARL is also a signatory of UNGC.Public PolicyARL has signed the Ethics policy on the Platform of Oil Companies' Advisory Committee (OCAC) along with other members from Oil & Petrole-um sector to abide by the highest ethical stand-ards, observed regulations applicable to the industry and laws of the country. ARL provides supports in public policy development and lobbying where required directly or through the forum of OCAC. There were no cases reported for any public legal or contractor case on corrup-tion for any employee or organization.
