    MotHer nature

By virtue o the act that we use the term Mother Nature we

are implying that good ole Mother Nature is like a sweet andkind old grandmother!! However, the reverse is the real truth! She can in act, be crankier than the missus aer getting o thescales!! A recent walk in the woods ollowing a heavy wet snowshowed ole Mother Nature in her true orm.Walking along, we saw a six inch diameter r broken completely

o about six eet rom the ground. Another r was down acrossthe trail also snapped right o. At regular intervals there werebirches, maples and evergreens bowed to the ground under theweight o heavy snow. Some will certainly recover but manyare likely doomed. I would bet that good ole Mother Naturewiped out more trees with one snowall than Mikie did in sixmonths with a chainsaw.

O course, in this one walk, we only observed a small ractiono what went on in the whole 170 Acre Wood this is theNauwigewauk version o A A Milnes 100 Acre Wood whereWinnie-the-Pooh is played by the Missus, Christopher Robinis played by me, and Te Jet does a remarkable imitation oEeyore.Destructive though she may be (Mother Nature, not the Missus)

aer a resh snow all, the woods are incredibly beautiul. Temissus has been taking some pictures o our woods walks andgee they look really great. Te Jet loves his walks in the woodsand his normally sad expression perks right up when he gets theold nose going. One day recently, Te Jet set two world recordsor deep snow sning. Yup, in just one day he went rom thenormal up to the eyeballs sning to a record up to the earssni in deep snow. Shortly aerwards he broke this record withan almost up to the collar sni. Tats my Boy!!! For beingsnoopy, the Jet has no competition ... except or the missus!!

So thanks to good ole Mother Nature a walk in the woodshas become a short walk, ollowed by scraping and shakingsome poor tree to lighten the snow burden, short walk - shaketree ... you probably get the picture!! Tank you Mother Naturein making a simple walk into a beautiul adventure!! 800

cHaLLenGe uPDateWe have had several inquiries recently regarding theprogress o our 10,000 steps challenge. At the end o ourweeks we have walked a total 3,350,829 steps - yes thatis 3 MILLION steps - which (using the average o 10,000steps = 5 miles) is 1675 miles. For mysel, I am sleepingbetter (especially on those days my step count is in the highteens!), my blood pressure is down a couple o points and asa bonus I am getting my vitamin D because I am spendingmore time outdoors in spite o the overload o snow thiswinter. I think even our lazy overweight cat has caught thebug, since the other day she was tearing around the houseeven though none o the other cats was even in her vicinity!Usually Smudge only interrupts her nap in a sunbeam ornext to the ire or periodic visits to her ood dish or the

litter box.I am hoping that once we have ended this 13 week walking

challenge that the habit o being more physically active wil lhave become ingrained into a on-going liestyle change.here was a time (beore Ossekeag) that I routinely walkedabout 20 miles per week (a 5 mile route about our timesper week). hat got pushed aside with becoming a businessowner, when I was too busy. It eels good to get movingagain.I had not intended this article to be devoted to our walking

challenge. he plan was to do a brie update on how ar wehad walked and move on . . . no pun intended. I had a wholebunch o ideas on what to share this week. Perhaps the story

o a amily member who got stuck in the driveway twice inone day. Or Mikie ditching the tractor while pulling saidamily member out o the ditch the second time. No, maybeMikes comment about someone would have to be crazy togo up on that roo to shovel it o . . . and then the next daythere he was, up on that roo shoveling it o. Or my utilesearch or a roo rake, which resulted in Mikie being up onthat roo with a shovel. But Im out o space . . . Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance,

you must keep moving. ~Albert Einstein. 801
