The Halquist Stone Company announced a donation ofconstruction and equipment for a youth sports facility that willbe constructed directly south of Hamilton High School.
The announcement for the facility, which will be calledthe Halquist Youth Complex, was announced at the May 7Hamilton School Board meeting. A drawing at the meetingshowed a layout that included two Little League softballfields, one NCAA regulation size soccer field, two 40-yardlong soccer fields and six 50-yard long soccer fields. Thedonation will cost approximately $200,000.
At the start of the presentation, Tom Halquist noted that
the company supported the district through the Dozer Dayevent, which was an event that benefitted the HamiltonEducation Foundation. The event was held for approximatelya decade until it was ended due to increased insurance andmining safety regulations.
"We really enjoyed the part about giving back to thecommunity. We've been here since 1929. Four generationsand throughout all that time our family has taken pride in thatwe've given from time to time," Tom Halquist said.
Halquist said that after Dozer Day ended, the familywanted to find "a different way to give."
After asking Hamilton officials about ideas, the companyselected the "wish list" of the soccer and baseball diamonds.
"We looked at that and Bill and I decided that's some-thing we want to make happen," Tom Halquist said. "We'rehere tonight to announce that well provide the funds to thedistrict to make that happen we're happy to do it."
