WHAT IS SUSPENSE? Suspense is a kind of story that makes the reader feel the

emotion that the character in the story is feeling. Many people think that suspense is the same thing as

horror stories but that’s not true. Suspense can be scary.

Red flag words are words used in suspenseful stories like: in the blink of an eye, suddenly, and out of the blue.Can you think of some red flag words?

HOW TO WRITE A SUSPENSEFUL STORY1. Put in a red flag word (out of the blue).

2. Say what you saw, heard, smelled, what ever (I heard a door slam).

3. Put in something that you were thinking (my heart pounded, maybe it was just my imagination. I thought to myself).

4. Repeat steps 1-3 so you have 3 red flag words, three clues, and three thoughts.

5. Add a conclusion.
