Transformational change –
the DNA of Atlantic Gateway
• ‘If anywhere in the UK can develop the critical mass and
momentum to become an alternative growth pole to
London, it is Atlantic Gateway’ Lord Heseltine and Sir
Terry Leahy
• By 2030, there is the potential for some 250,000 new jobs
to be created in the Atlantic Gateway area
• Around 140,000 of these jobs will be associated with
Atlantic Gateway priority projects, involving £14 billion of
new investment.

administrative boundaries to identify cross boundary
issues such as the Northern Hub, skills, environmental
sustainability and science
Recent successes
• 3MG bridge soon to start construction- voted one of the top
100 infrastructure projects in the world
• Funding of the Northern Hub in full – will lead to 30,000 jobs
and a boost of £4.2bn to the North West
• £35m from the Regional Growth Fund for Liverpool2 now
underway – will generate 5,000 jobs
• Port Salford has begun with the construction of the Western
Gateway Infrastructure Scheme (WGIS)
• Completion of phase 1 of Media City- the 1st BREEAM
sustainable community in the world
