The intervention serves the functions of a marketplace, bridge, and community forum space. The need for a pedestrian bridge across the busy industrial highway would foster community building. As food and commerce is common ground for most people groups, the market draws users through and across the pedestrian bridge while providing opportunities for cross-cultural interaction.

Although Atlanta prides itself on its ethnic diversity, this is hard to distinguish in the built environment of suburbia. This issue is especially apparent along Buford Hwy just within the perimeter of I-285. Asian Square and Pinetree Plaza characterize the placelessness of suburbia while having ethnic diversity.

The thesis aims to articulate and give identity to the community of immigrants which provide the richness and diversity to the environment. This is achieved by defining the edge along the strip of Buford Highway, redefining how people move through/on/around built space, and incorporating a program which fosters a sense of com-munity and cross-cultural communication/awareness.

"The Gulch" is an area in downtown atlanta that is disconnected from surrounding neighbor-hoods. Atlanta's beginning as a train hub led to a system of viaducts that created vertical separa-tion to serve functionality of transportation but it also created a rip in the urban fabric.

In this design, we propose an intervention that stitches between neighborhoods surrounding the gulch by increasing connectivity of the consti-tutional order of the street network, introduce a multi-modal station to create connectivity on a regional level as well as introduction of new at-tractions and increase density in the area. The proposal emphasizes creation of new public spaces or commons which are inherently linked to the street network and thus fulfill a serious lack in downtown Atlanta.

Concept: Lifting the MassDefining the corner of Pushkinalle and Gropiusalle architecturally. Key characteristics of interior spaces are informed by the prominent cor-ner created.

Bauhaus principles are reinter-preted throughout the design. Gro-pius’ play of solid vs. transparency inspired the appearance of a lifted mass.

Spatial Quality: Visual ConnectionsInterior spaces are designed to allow the visitor to have multiple visual connec-tions throughout the museum. With the use of ramps, the promenade of the visitor is guided in a chronological order following the Bauhaus throughout history. This results in a variety of dynamic exhibition opportunities.
