THE IMPORTANCE OF SURVEY ANALYSIS

After creating and distributing my survey I have collected the results so that I can begin to analyse them. This is important as

these results will tell me the necessary information I need to know to create a trailer I know my target audience will like and enjoy,

which in turn should prompt them to watch the whole film (if I were to create one). Also its of high importance that I find any problems before creating the trailer such as choosing a soundtrack that isn’t

compatible with my target audience. This research stage gives me a chance to find out about my

audience so I can tailor my product to their tastes.

The majority of people who answered my survey are female this isn’t a problem as my target audience would mainly be a female audience because of the romance element I wish to incorporate into the drama genre.From these results and graph you can see that 58.33% are female.

These results are all quite close however slightly more people watch over 5 films a week. This is slightly surprising as I thought that the most common number of films watched per week would be between 3-5.

These results are the same as I expected, as cinemas are so expensive now it is becoming ever more difficult and expensive to go frequently, so people only tend to go once a month and this is shown in my survey. Also there is more technology that makes films more accessible outside cinema.

The most popular answer was YouTube, This is what I expected. Personally myself I watch

trailers on YouTube as they are easy to access and many websites have links to view trailers

on YouTube. Watching trailers at the cinema and on social media websites have exactly the same results of 33.33%, so both of these are quite popular options. I always watch trailers of upcoming

films at the cinema and tend to watch trailers to sequels on Facebook as it selects videos according to what I have previously liked.These results have shown me that I should

publish my trailer on YouTube in order to get the most views.

These results were not what I expected as I didn’t think comedy would be as popular as it was. 33.33% of people

chose comedy as their favourite genre, however the majority of these people were male. The second most popular

genre was rom com, which shows audiences enjoy romance in a film. 10%

of people selected Drama as their favourite genre, which is the genre I

wish to produce.

As technology is advancing I anticipated that for this question my results would show that subscription TV would be the most popular platform for watching film. 57.14% of people watch TV by using one or more subscription service primarily Netflix as it is well marketed and advertised and the majority of family's have it in their house holds as its easy to access anywhere on any appliance or on the go.

88.11% of people would watch a romantic drama this is a good outcome as it shows the genre I wish to produce is popular and would appeal to an audience.Most people said they would most likely watch a romance drama with a partner (so I should make the trailer have a slightly male appeal) or with their friends.

This question has shown me what the audience believe are the most important aspects to include in a trailer, if I include all these points my trailer should appeal directly to my target audience. Sound/Music, Actors and plot/narrative was voted s the most important.

This question shows what makes the audience drawn to watch a trailer. The most important was plot and narrative, this means in my trailer I have to get across the plot while keeping suspense and not giving too much away.Soundtrack and star actors were also an appealing factor for many people when watching a trailer. Obviously I wont be able to get star actors but I can make sure their acting is of high quality. Soundtrack is personally the most important to me. As I think it really sets the tine of the film and makes you feel a particular way depending on the genre and style of music. Its very important that the music suits the tone of the film.
