Lightwater Country Park

Lightwater Country Park extends to 59 hectares and consists of a variety of habitats including open heathland, woodland, meadows and ponds. The heathland is a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I) due to the rare wildlife it supports. There are waymarked walks and nature trails, and the view from High Curley Hill is well worth the climb!

Facilities also include a dog-free picnic area and children’s playground.

Visit www.surreyheath.gov.uk/leisure or call 01276 707338

Page 5: Surrey Heath Borough Council Walks and Events 2015

The Country Park is home to a variety of wildlife, but, in order to see it you need to be both patient and quiet.

On warm days you may be lucky enough to spot a basking lizard or snake, soaking up the sun before they go off to hunt.

On spring mornings the air is alive with the sound of bird song, from familiar Blackbirds and Robins to the less recognisable scratchy song of the rare Dartford Warbler.

As night falls on a still summer’s evening you may hear the metallic song of a Nightjar, a very rare bird that migrates all the way from Africa each year to nest amongst the heather.

Be sure to take a walk across the heath between late July and early September. At this time of year the heather is in full flower and the heathland is transformed into a sea of pink

and purple.

FRIMLEY LODGE PARKThe jewel in the Surrey Heath crown and in August 2014 it was awarded the Green Flag award for the 14th year in a row, meaning it really is one of the best parks in the UK! Take a look at some of the other facilities at the Lodge...

More Than Just A Park!

THE MINIATURE RAILWAYOffering a short scenic ride in the park on the first Sunday of the month between March and November, as well as special events throughout the year. The railway is run by volunteers, from the Frimley and Ascot Locomotive Club, who build and maintain the

railway. For more information go to www.flmr.org

Situated at the back of the park near the canal, the Memory Tree is a peaceful spot to remember and reflect. Pick up biodegradable paper from the café and leave your message on the tree.

New 3G Pitch at Frimley Lodge

On January 26th of this year a brand new state of the art 3G pitch opened at Frimley Lodge Park. This top of the range addition to Surrey Heath’s flagship park provides a valuable space for the Borough’s many football teams of all ages. The 3G pitch will cater for 1000’s of participants annually, helping the Borough stay active and healthy whilst enjoying a premium sporting facility.

The artificial turf pitch facilitates a higher standard of play than a traditional all-weather pitch, lessening the potential for injuries.

These surfaces are termed 3rd Generation Pitches (3G) and provide a longer artificial grass blade and rubber crumb base which more accurately reflects the roll and bounce of natural grass.

For further information on availability and how to book contact:

[email protected] or call 01276 707338

The benefits of a 3G pitch include:

• All year round usability• Less injuries• Lower total up-keep cost compared to normal grass pitches• Will last for years to come!

Footgolf is coming to Frimley Lodge Park!

Arriving in April 2015!What is Footgolf?Footgolf is played on a golf course using a size 5 football. The object of the game is to get the ball into a Footgolf-specific hole using only your feet in the fewest number of shots possible. Footgolf is a very ‘addictive’ sport - it combines the best of football and golf, two of the most popular sports in the world. The beauty of the game lies in your being able to strategically combine power and precision with every shot. And, of course, it’s open to everyone.

Does Footgolf operate at the same time as the Pitch ‘n’ Putt?Although both activities use the same area, Footgolf will not operate at the same time as the traditional Pitch ‘n’ Putt for health and safety reasons. Instead, each activity will be available at designated times (e.g. Pitch ‘n’ Putt in the morning, Footgolf in the afternoon).

To book a tee slot Visit www.ukfootgolf.com and select ‘Frimley Lodge Park’. Use the calendar to view availability and book a tee slot for 5 players at a time. For larger groups, book more tee slots up to 60 days in advance. For bookings more than 60 days in advance, email [email protected] with course name, contact number, date, start time, and size of group. To speak to an advisor, call 0800 6899552.
