For use in First Visit Evaluation Screening …

The Single Track hand held surface Electro MyoGraphy scanner is a small but very versatile dynamic muscle evaluation device.

It has to be considered the entry level for physiological evaluation of muscle activity as well as muscle training.

Single Track sEMG

Page 3: Surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner

Simply plug the unit into the USB port on your computer and hold it on the muscle group you want to evaluate.

No messy gel on the electrodes

Use Alcohol to moisten the contactsand to clean the area on the face to be scanned.

EASY TO USE ON EVERY PATIENT

For The Masticatory Function It Is Important To Evaluate The Following Muscles :

RIGHT MASSETERLEFT MASSETERRIGHT ANT. TEMPORALISLEFT ANT. TEMPORALISUPPER HYOID GROUP

Muscle Relaxation Evaluations:

SPONTANEOUS RELAXATION◦It is the natural perception that the person

has about that muscle

INFORMED RELAXATIONS◦When we give basic information to the person

on what type of “behavior” to assume to allow the muscle to relax

TRAINED DEEP RELAXATION◦When the person has undergone extensive

cognitive training (sEMG Biofeedback), to learn the correct behavior in order to obtain deep muscle relaxation and therefore have the perception of minor muscle tension.

MUSCLE PATTERNS

◦There are 5 elements to the sEMG muscle pattern

◦You need to evaluate this basic sEMG muscle pattern.

Page 8: Surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner

MUSCLE PATTERNS

The five elements in the muscle pattern are :

1.Resting Muscle Pattern

2.Contraction Pattern

3.Sustained Contraction Pattern

4.Release Pattern

5.Post-Contraction Pattern

HEALTHY MUSCLE PATTERNS

◦ In the normal pattern you see the muscle at its baseline.

◦ Then contracting and maintaining the tension.

◦ Next the muscle is relaxed with full release and no descent notch noted completely back to baseline

DESCENT NOTCH

Difficult to return to baseline

◦ Next the muscle begins to relax and then stops and starts again, having difficulty fully releasing to the relaxed state.

UNHEALTHY PATTERN “POOR RELEASE”

◦ This is what we refer to as a DESCENT NOTCH in the release or latency to return.

SCAN SIGNALS

sEMG in Microvolts◦ Detects occlusion asymmetry

Mean-Median sEMG in Frequency [Hz]◦ Detects local muscle fatigue

Microbreaks in Responses/min◦ Index of muscle health at rest

•There are 5 Different Graphs In Scanning Data

Page 13: Surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner

The Scan Profile takes 3 minutes

•5 Different Graphs To Compare and View

SECOND GRAPH TYPE – THE PAIN LINK

PAIN GRAPHPatients rate their pain level (from 0-

10) in the areas that are scanned.

Page 16: Surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner

THIRD GRAPH TYPE –FATIGUE-INVERSION

MEAN AND MEDIAN GRAPH• Mean-Median sEMG in Frequency [Hz]

- Detects local muscle fatigue

But what does that mean?

FORTH GRAPH TYPE –MICROBREAK

MICRO BREAKS GRAPH• Micro breaks in Responses/min

– This allows you to see if muscles are healthy, if they have split second gaps in contraction that allow blood flow, and sustained endurance.

MICRO BREAKS

Hold in full tension

Page 19: Surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner

MICRO BREAKS

Hold in full tension

Technical : Microbreaks are related to Muscle Spindle looping – like an auto-reset on the computer to keep it clear under load.

Healthy Muscles show ‘microbreaks’ –

Split second gaps in contraction that allow blood flow, and sustained endurance.

NOTE:

There is no fatigue in this graph – muscle is healthy.

Look at :

sEMG + Mean/Median = IS There FATIGUE ?

Allows analysis of ‘‘Microbreaks’.ADDING FATIGUE COMPONENT

Are there healthy microbreaks?

No – This muscle is fatigued.

Look at :

sEMG + Microbreak + Mean/Median = Is There TRUE FATIGUE Now?
