Supporting women who have no access to legal aid: Introducing McKenzie Friend   Motivated by seeing women in court without any access to legal aid, the EOU was approached by a solicitor who wishes to support refugee and migrant groups to be able to support their clients in desperate situations. The trainer Karen Gayle-Kirk LLB (Hons), GCILE, is also an experienced McKenzie Friend herself. !This free introductory training session has been set up to introduce refugee and migrant advisors from community groups to this scheme. We will explain where it has come from, how it works and how you can follow this up if you want to know more. !The training focuses on Family Law but the lessons generally apply to most other areas of law. !NB If there is sufficient interest, we will run additional sessions.   This is open to any female staff, volunteers, and management committee members from refugee and asylum-seeking groups/ backgrounds. This is an event for women only. !!
