About the Supporting My Teen To Learn ProgrammeSupporting my teen to learn is a new flexible 12 hour programme designed to help parents and carers to support their teenager to learn more effectively. This one day Lead Practitioner training supports you to deliver this programme tailoring it to your organisations priorities. The programme contains all the resources and activities needed to deliver the course.

The Supporting My Teen To Learn programme will help you to:• Develop parents’ and carers’ experience in order to understand more about young people as

learners and as individuals • Develop a greater awareness of how respectful relationships are at the core of supporting

young people through a potentially difficult stage of their lives• Help parents and carers to understand how to help to maximise young people’s learning

potential.• Develop an understanding of the many ways that learners are the same and different to each other.• Share a range of strategies for supporting the learning of young people.• Build a belief in the potential of all to achieve success• Promote support for parents and provide a space where they can reflect and discuss

What’s in the courseThe programme is comprised of six sessions:1. Getting ready to learnThis session introduces the programme, sets the ground rules and begins to explore the nature of learning.2. My Teenager’s Amazing Brain This session explores the major changes that are going on in the teenager’s brain that may help us to understand some of their outward behaviour.3. A Mindset for Learning and LifeThis session explores some of the ways in which parents can encourage their teenager to develop a mindset for learning that encourages them to be more positively responsive to setbacks and enjoy the challenges of learning.4. I’m a Unique Learner This session considers individual differences and supports parents to see the uniqueness of their teenager, using a language around ‘strengths’ from the field of positive psychology.5. The power of positive relationshipsThis session explores the changing relationship between parent and child during adolescence and considers an approach to listening and talking that builds strong, respectful relationships.6. Supporting your teenage with revision and exam preparationThis session builds on what we know about the brain and offers different strategies for improving our memories.
