How to Create Search and Journal Alerts

Tutorial

Welcome to EBSCO’s tutorial, demonstrating how to create Search and Journal Alerts, as well as how to save Advanced Searches. Search and Journal Alerts save valuable research time, and can

be set up to provide automatic notification to any email address(es) you specify, whenever new results become available.

Click on the Search History/Alerts link below the Find field. From the open Search History/Alerts window, you can create a search alert for the most recent Advanced Search performed. First, click on

the Save Searches/Alerts link. If you are not already signed in to My EBSCOhost, you will be prompted to do so.

If you need a User Name and Password, click on the “I’m a new user” link and follow the prompts. Search and Journal Alerts, as well as Saved Searches, are stored in your personalized (My

EBSCOhost) folder, which can be created by EBSCOhost users at no charge.

Fill in the resulting form fields, then click on the Alert radio button to turn your request into a Search Alert.

Complete the Alert setup form, selecting from the frequency and duration drop-down lists. Enter the email address(es) to which you want your future search results sent, and then click Save.

You can set up a Journal Alert to receive automatic email notification when a new issue of a specified title has been added to the database. First, click on the Publications button along the top toolbar.

Enter the publication name in the Browse Publications field, click Browse and then click on the resulting link to the Publication Details page.

On the publication record, click on Alert/Save/Share in the upper right corner and in the resulting menu click Create an alert to open the Journal Alert setup form.

Complete the resulting form and click Save to be automatically notified of a new issue’s arrival.

Advanced Searches can be saved, once you’ve logged into your personalized folder. In the Saved Search/Alert setup form, enter the name and description of the most recent Advanced Search

conducted, then click on the Saved Search (Permanent) or the Saved Search (Temporary) radio button. Click Save and the search will be saved in your folder until you delete it.

Click on the Help link for access to a complete electronic manual, including an easy-to-use search window, allowing smooth navigation to the answers you need. For additional help on this and other

EBSCO products, visit our customer support and training site at http://support.ebsco.com. This concludes the Search and Journal Alerts tutorial.
