NSCC will use D2L for all courses by September 2017
This guide shows how to navigate D2L and use PeopleSoft Queries to see how faculty and students are doing with using D2L.

Get a list of the courses your faculty are teaching using Peoplesoft.
Log onto PeopleSoft and use PeopleSoft Query
It lists the courses a faculty is teaching for a term.
Enter these prompts:

With using content in a manner that follows the Copyright Act? Copyright rights and responsibilities apply to faculty’s use of D2L. They have the same educations users’ rights teaching in D2L that they have in the physical classroom; and the same responsibilities to use content in a manner that meets the conditions set in NSCC Policies and the Copyright Act.

If your faculty are not sure if copied content qualifies as fair dealing or as an educational use exception in the Copyright Act or is posted under a permission or license agreement, they can:
• Use Copyright Decision Tool

Grades data from D2L is currently imported into PeopleSoft once a week on Sunday evenings. A query was created in PeopleSoft to report on this data.
Login to PeopleSoft and navigate to the Query Viewer and enter NS_D2L_002_ASSN_AND_GRADES
Several prompts are required:
TERM: Enter the term to search, it can be either the fall, winter, spring or year long term. FOR EXAMPLE: 1168, 1171, 1175, 1169.
CAMPUS: Use the campus abbreviation, e.g. Insti, Water, Truro. DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK.
INSTRUCTOR: If you wish to view all instructors use % otherwise enter the 7 digit emplid.DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK.
FINAL GRADES: To view only the Final grade, or current final grade, for a class enter Y. To view the Final grade along with all the individual grade items enter %. DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK.
STUDENT ID: If you are looking for a specific student enter their 7 digit emplid, otherwise enter % to view all students. DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK.

This role gives you access to your faculty’s classroom courses and any online courses they are assigned to teach. You can view content in the courses but cannot edit, delete or change anything.
NOTE: It is best to leave your Role at All Roles

A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Starting in September, course title in live shells will contain Subject code, catalog nbr, course title, online or blended information, Instructor name, and class nbr. You will be able to search on any one of these features.
Example: ICOM3310 – Technical Training (B) - Marc Scarfone 3808
Note: To find your faculty’s course development shells, you may need to have faculty rename the course title to include these features or you can search by user rather than course title. Click “Search by User” for instruction on how to do this

A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
C. D2L Course End Date
The end date on the courses will be extended by 4 weeks so students do not lose access to their
courses on the last day of the semester.
D. Student Email Address
A student’s NSCC email address will now come over to D2L. NOT their preferred email.

AD HOC SECTION ASSOCIATIONS (formerly Combined Sections)
What is the process to have sections associated?
Faculty will complete the request form and send it to their Ac-ademic Chair. Academic Chair’s will review and if approved send the request to their Administrative Assistants to com-plete in PeopleSoft.
Note: All Ad Hoc Section Associations must be completed in PeopleSoft before the 1st day of classes.

What is an Ad Hoc Section Association?
This functionality provides the ability to group class sections together into one D2L Shell.
