As a local builder and current President of the Brunswick County Home Builder’s Association, I would like to welcome you to the Brunswick County Home Builder’s Association’s 2021 Parade of Homes. This parade marks the 19th consecutive year this event has been presented to the public by our local organization. Many have toured our homes over the years and were inspired by the designs and craftsmanship they found on display. Brunswick County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, and this year’s growth has accelerated. Our local beaches, waterways, and golf courses provide wonderful backdrops to picturesque communities and homesites both for residents and the many who have made the move and now call Brunswick County home. In preparing our homes for this year’s event, the ordinary challenges of routine construction were enhanced by many uncontrollable variables. Material costs skyrocketed as demand continued to increase. Low interest rates fueled the flames of a very strong local housing market and many times offset the additional cost of construction during this period of heightened prices. Builders were forced to develop individual strategies to manage cost increases during the construction process along with significant increases in lead times for materials,

fixtures, and appliances. While operating in a market of constant change and adjustment, these builders accomplished the mission and are pleased to share their homes with the public. As we continue as a nation to live with the reality of COVID-19, precautions will be taken to provide a safe environment for all. Like last year, all 2021 entries will be available via virtual tour, and nearly all have chosen to participate in allowing in-person viewing as well. Please review each entry to determine how the builder has chosen to allow viewing this year. The BCHBA is sincerely appreciative of the many who have contributed to this year’s parade. It is a collective effort of our membership, committees, vendors, and many others that make this event possible every fall here in Brunswick County.

This DIY retired couple took on the huge task of renovating their newly purchased, 30-year-old home with the goal to “age in place.” The last project included replacement of all the home’s windows, a rebuild and expansion of the deck, and morphing the Carolina Room from three seasons to year-round use. Aware of their limitations, they reached out to WindowZ, Inc. to help finish this renovation. The existing deck was replaced and expanded by two feet and now provides greater space for seating and dining. The three-season Carolina Room had been cleaned and repaired earlier, but after living through the spring, summer, and fall seasons, it was decided that the use of the room was greatly limited. Now beautiful new sliding windows provide unobstructed views of the fairway that runs behind their home. With the stand-alone HVAC unit installed, the room has added overall square footage and can be enjoyed year-round. The final phase of the renovation included replacement of all the home’s windows with new casement windows. Architectural integrity provided beauty to the home with the added benefit of energy efficiency. Our homeowners are now finished with their renovation and plan on relaxing and enjoying their retirement.
