Sophie McMahon: Luson the Vue Aged care - “Sophie went out of her way to make a storybook for a resident. Went above and beyond. Was an absolute gem!” Belinda Smith: Heathdale Christian College – “Absolutely wonderful. Wants to keep her. Was better than some employees!” Georgia Menhennett: Goodstart Barber Drive childcare/kinder – “Fantastic! So much enthusiasm was extremely helpful” Lachlan Jeans: Doubletree by Hilton. “So enthusiastic. Was in early every morning. Also had Jerell Resoort the week before. Both worked at front desk assisting with check-in and check-out then moved for food and beverage. Both students did a great job” Haylee Wilson: Salt and Pepper Café – “Fantastic! Picked up everything easily. Not afraid of customer service washing dishes or anything they needed. Was early every morning. Even staying later some days and had a 5am start for a catering service day” Zakota Courtney: David McCarty Plumbing – “Worked in factory and out on the road with plumbers. Asked plenty of questions and was very interested in all that plumbers do.” Thank you also to the Year 9 Team for organising our first ever Year 9 Camp. The camp was held at The Summit in Trafalgar. Students got to meet snakes, orienteer, drop from the high swing, climb the high wire, take part in a tough mudder, sleep in heated tents. I was lucky enough to be belayed by students on the high wire – they promised not to drop me, and I was happy to survive! As the weather gets colder, we’d like to remind students and their families that hoodies, leggings/skins, tracksuit pants with big logos and stripes, and/or jeans are not school uniform. Students who are out of uniform, are able to borrow uniform for the day from the Wellbeing Hub Portable Uniform Bank. If families have any queries about this – please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Year Level Coordinator or Head of School. We welcome all new families to the Manor Lakes community and hope you enjoy the articles below. Renee Liprino Secondary Principal 7-12 Manor Lakes P-12 College

Health Information

The Department of Human Services supplies to all schools The Blue Book, which details information on many community-based infections. At times we will highlight different community concerns and will send, via the newsletter the guidelines supplied to us from The Blue Book and the Department of Health (Victoria); please find information below on Hand, foot and mouth disease. What is Hand, foot and mouth? Hand, foot and mouth disease is caused by a virus which causes blisters on the hands and feet, in the mouth and often in the ‘nappy’ area. It generally is a mild disease that lasts seven to ten days. What are the symptoms of Hand, foot and mouth? The common symptoms are:

A high temperature (fever)

Sore throat

Page 5: SUPERVISION IN THE YARD BEGINS AT 8:35 AM AND ENDS AT … · Well done Jess!” DESCRIPTION PAYMENT ... The updated timetable will be available on the PTV website from Friday 30 August

Small, blister-like lesions that may occur on the inside of the mouth, sides of the tongue, palms of the hands, fingers, soles of the feet and the ‘nappy’ area.

How long does is it infectious? The skin blisters are infectious until they become crusty and there is no fluid in the blisters. Children should be excluded from school, kindergarten and child care centres until all the blisters have dried up. Can Hand, foot and mouth be treated? There is no specific treatment. Use paracetamol as directed for fever. If fever persists or there are worrying symptoms consult your local doctor immediately Preventing the spread of Hand, foot and mouth disease:

Good personal hygiene is essential.

Washing hands carefully after contact with the blister

Allowing blisters to dry naturally and never pierce blisters For Further information please contact your local doctor, Better Health Channel or Victorian Department of Health on 1300 651 160

FACES

FACES (Fundraising and Community Event Support) are looking for members of our school community who can help with preparations for the College’s ‘Big Day Out’ which is being held on Saturday Oct 26.

Each Friday in the Gordon staff room we will be meeting to complete different tasks. Commitment for every week is not required - come when you can. An hour or two of your help is all we ask. Projects include making flyers, signs and help prepare and organise stalls. Volunteering gets you out of the house, helps you make new friends and gives you satisfaction of helping to achieve something. If you’re planning to go back into the workforce, volunteering is a great asset on your resume - these are just a few of the benefits of volunteering within your community. Please contact Bec on 0403175925 or [email protected] for more info. I hope to see some new faces and bring a friend. Gordon Staff Room 9am Friday’s Bec Collins FACES
