Jesus Makes A Great Sacrifice 

Bible Story: Acts 1:9­12 

Bottom Line: Give your all to help, no matter what the cost. 

 

Setting and Background: 

 

Story: Intro: Warping Wendy: Hey everyone! It’s our last day at Superhero University so let’s not waste 

any time! Alright you guys know the drill… (do warp away sequence)  WARP 

AWAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!! (lights flicker, jump off stage) 

(SFX: Do warping or swooshing sound into the story) 

 

Scene opens up on group of people staring up. Mary stands off to the side as Traveler enters.  

Mary: Hi, are you lost? 

 

Traveler: Me? No, I mean Jesus is here right? Because I’ve traveled far to hear him teach. There 

has been so much talk about him, I had to come learn for myself. 

 

Mary: Well, I’m afraid you just missed him. 

 

(Warping Wendy enters and tries to figure out what everyone is looking at.)(SFX: Do short warping sound as WW enters)  

WW: Is there a storm coming? 

 

Mary: No, you just missed the one who can calm the storms though. 

 

Traveler: Oh. Well then, you must have known Jesus. Can you tell us about him? 

 

Mary: Of course. My name is Mary Magdalene. I knew Jesus very well. He was a dear friend of 

mine.  

 

Traveler: My name is Quinta and I’ve been told about Jesus and that he’s a great guy.  

 

Mary: It is really great to meet you, and yes, He is sooo much more than a great guy. And who 

are you? (directed at WW) 

 

WW: Oh, hi, I’m War...I mean Wendy and I know he did something amazing, but I don’t really 

know what he did. 

 

Mary: It is nice to meet you too, Wendy. You must have really traveled far, for I have never seen a 

garment quite so unique. And what you say is true, Jesus did do something amazing and 

miraculous. You see, Jesus gave up everything just to save us. 

 

Traveler: Gave up everything? You mean like his house? And his boat? 

 

Mary: Come with me and I will show you. (the 3 walk over to Calvary where there is an empty 

cross) 

 

Mary: (Somberly Mary recounts the dead of Christ) This is where it happened. I was standing 

right there when Jesus gave up his life. He said, “It is finished. Father, into your hands I commit 

My spirit.” He paid the high cost so that we could come and live with him and his father in 

heaven. 

 

WW: You mean he chose to die? He let them crucify him on the cross?  

Mary: Yes, he could have chose not to with one WORD, but he humbled himself for our sakes. 

 

Traveler: But only the good people go to heaven, right? 

 

Mary: No, come with me again. This time to the market. (the 3 walk over to the market where 

there are 2 brothers in front of a basket of apples. 

(The 3 look on as the brothers interact in the market.)  Brother 1: I’m sooo hungry! I really want that apple. That merchant wouldn’t miss just this one 

apple. (He snatches the apple and hides it under his clothes.) 

 

Brother 2: Well dear brother, I would never do that. That is why I am mom and dad’s favorite 

child. I don’t cause nearly the heartache that you cause. You will never be as good as me. Guess 

you will just have to live with that! I should tell the merchant on you. 

 

Brother 1: Nooo, please don’t!!! I’ll share the apple with you 

 

Brother 2: Never! And risk getting caught? forget it. 

 

(the 2 brothers walk away) 

 

Mary: You see, no one is good. There is no little or big sin. Stealing and pride are both sin. In 

God’s eyes, sin is all the same and it separates us from Him. The payment for sin is death. 

Jesus died for everyone because everyone does bad things and no one is perfect. He paid for 

our sin, so we can be with Him in eternity!  

 

WW: Wow. You mean (takes off mask)  Jesus even died for me? Even though sometimes I yell 

at my mom or lie to my brother?  

 

Mary: Yes. (Turns to face kids and gestures at kids around the room) Jesus died for you, and 

you, and you, and even me. Jesus loves us very much. 

 

Traveler: Oh I’m so sad, If he is dead, then how do we get to spend eternity with Him? 

 

Mary: Oh no, That’s the best part. After Jesus died on the cross, he rose again after 3 days. And 

now he’s joining his father in heaven. That’s why you missed him. He has gone to prepare a 

place for his beloved. You see, Jesus is going to come again for all who believe in Him and it 

may not be for awhile, but if you want him to, while you wait he can be in your heart. You just 

have to ask him. 

 

Traveler: So Jesus died for all of us and he’s gonna come back? He wants me to be with him 

and all I have to do is ask? 

 

Mary: That’s right. If you believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins, and you ask him for forgiveness. He will clean and come live in your heart, you can be with him forever. 

 

WW: Can you help me ask him? 

 

Traveler: Oh yes, me too? 

 

Mary: Yes, let’s pray. (the 3 kneel down to pray as the lights dim) 

 

WW comes to front to close. 

 

 

Story Outro: 

WW: Did you guys hear what Mary told me? She told me that Jesus died for us. He gave up his 

LIFE  just so we could be with him and the best part is he didn’t stay dead! Jesus is alive today 

and he can be a part of your life if you only ask. Talk to your small group leaders. They’re really 

smart and they can answer your questions about Jesus and help you accept him into your heart!
