How did it all begin? In the 1990’s…• College recognized its desperate need for additional space

• Public attention in Westchester focused on needs of rapidly increasing immigrant population, and needs of employers

• Hitachi Foundation awarded WCC a $200,000 grant to study this topic in December 1999

Full Steam Ahead in the New Millennium• 2001: Gateway concept presented to County Executive, receives commitment of support

• 2004: Capital funding approved by New York State

• 2004: Lead donor issues initial challenge gift for the Gateway Center

• 2004: Architect selected, campaign co-chairs named

• November 19, 2004: Public launch of campaign attended by Governor Pataki
