Please read these instructions through carefully

before starting installation!

Before you start work on installing your SUNS TAR® pool, please check the scope of supply.

Scope of supply1. Pool:• Galvanized, plastic-coated high-strength steel elements,

0.5 m (0.25 m) wide and 1.5 m high • 1 element with skimmer cut-out for skimmer type 111 • 2 elements with nozzle cut-out for inlet nozzle • 4 galvanized steel corner supports, steel interim supports at

least every 2 m • Galvanized and plastic-coated U-profiles to take the steel

segments• Galvanized hex screws M10 with nuts and washers• Heavy-duty dowel for fastening the corner and interim

supports and the steel segments to the concr ete base slab • Tapping screws for fastening the suspension profiles• Hard PVC fastening profile for fitting the wedge piping • 4 corner pieces (hard PVC fastening profiles bent into a

quadrant shape so that the wedge piping can be fitted easilyin the corners)

• 4 profiles of polyethylene foam, 1.5 m long, r ounded (for adhering in the vertical pool corner)

• Pool inner cover, blue, 0.8 mm with wedge piping

The rectangular SUNSTAR® pool consists of steel elementsmeasuring 0.5 m in width and 1.5 m in height, tr eated withtop quality zinc plating (5% aluminium, 95% zinc) and finishedwith a plastic coating. Each element weighs appr ox. 13 kg. The elements are inserted in the supplied U-profiles on asmooth concrete slab which has already been prepared on siteby the customer, and screwed together. The upper edge againconsists of a U-profile, which can be covered with pool edgestones if required. The sealing function is performed by a poolfoil approx. 0.8 mm thick, which is inserted in a clamping profile screwed into the structure all the way round. The poolcan also be conventionally lined with fabric-reinforced foil 1.5 mm thick on request.

As far as the pool fittings are concerned, there is a choice oftwo sets. The pool fittings in stainless steel (Art. No. 11.29.22)or plastic (Art. No. 11.29.21) consist of 1 skimmer , 2 inlet nozzles and a floor drain. The steel elements with the corresponding cut-outs are included in the scope of supply.

Segments with cut-outs for spotlights or Swim-tec counter-current system must be ordered separately.

It goes without saying that you can pr oduce individual cut-outs yourself easily and without any problems using a powerdrill and a jig saw.

Make sure that the following tools are at the readybefore starting work:

Chalkline ChalkPencil Felt penTape measure Metering ruleSet of wrenches Ratchet, possibly offset Screwdriver screwdriver, pneumatic drill, Set of drill bits hammer(stone and steel).

If you will be making your own cut-outs: electric power drillwith steel bits, electric jig saw with metal saw blade and ir onfile. Now you can start with the actual installation work for yourSUNSTAR® Pool.

Excavation and the concrete base

1. ExcavationThe earth is excavated approx. 1 m larger than the size of the pool in every direction (e.g. for swimming pool 8 x 4 m,excavated area 9 x 5 m). Compact the gr ound to 0.20 N/mm2.

2. Concrete baseA concrete base is produced on grown soil using concrete B15,15 cm thick and reinforced at the top with structural steelmesh matting 0131. The concrete slab must be at least 80 cmlarger than the size of the pool so that the corner supports andlongitudinal supports can be fitted without any pr oblems. Thefloor drain for the swimming pool and the tubing system mustalready be concreted in position. Finally, level off the concreteslab to produce a smooth, absolutely horizontal surface. Waterdrainage must be safeguarded all around the pool.

Installing the pool

The entire pool is measured out precisely before installationand marked accordingly on the base plate.

Please note that the two diagonals must be exactly thesame length.

If polyester steps are being fitted in the pool, these should beerected first and positioned in the intended position. The firstsegment can now be fitted to the steps and scr ewed to the cor-ner support.

o Caution: Do not tighten the screws absolutely tight at this stage: thisonly happens after the complete pool has been installed andthe steel interim supports and segments have been aligned.Use the supplied metal blanks as shims.

An interim support is screwed to two segments at least every 2 m (to the side and not between the segments). The firstheavy-duty dowels are screwed in these interim supports in the middle oblong hole to stabilize the wall (this makes it possible to align the pool wall later).

Ensure that the steel segments with cut-outs ar e fitted in the right positions. Once all segments, corner supports andinterim supports have been screwed together, the upper U-profiles have been put in position and the pool walls alignedaccordingly, the individual segments can be fastened to thebase plate with the heavy-duty dowels.

Er e c t ion instruct ions within s ta l lat ion recommendat ion sPlease note: DIN respectively VDE demand equipotential bonding for swimming pools.

Please therefore always consult your local electrical engineer.

In order to increase the stability of the structure and align the segments, the upper U-profiles are now fitted in position –shorter legs inside – and screwed flush with the inner edge of the elements together with the plastic suspension pr ofile(plastic suspension profile only for pre-fabricated foil innercover).

Fitting the cross stays

To prevent the steel segments from becoming deformed fromthe water pressure, 3 cross stays are placed on the f langescrews for each segment.

Please note that the cross stays must be fitted in the followingpositions (from bottom to top):

1st cross stay on the second screw, 2nd cross stay on thethird screw and 3rd cross stay on the fifth screw.

Please use the shorter cross stays for those segments connected with a vertical support.

Fitting the brackets for reinforcing bars

It is advisable to use the brackets if the pool is not being backfilled with lean concrete.

Installing Roman steps

Roman steps can be fitted to both the long and to the shortside. Erection of the SUNSTAR® pool differs only very slightlywith or without Roman steps. The elements ar e described in the same way under Installation of the pool.

Roman steps are available in widths of 3 m, 2.5 m and 1.5 m.The steps (SCALA) with integrated jet stream are 3.0 m wide. On request, a corner structure measuring 2.0 x 2.0 m can alsobe supplied with the steps on the inside.

Elements in the corresponding width are omitted at the pointwhere the Roman steps are to be fitted. The steps are screwedto the segments on the right and left. Caution: for stability reasons, please note that the Roman steps must be completelyunderfilled or consolidated with concrete (use reinforcing bars).

Installation recommendation: align the steps precisely in thefirst stage and keep checking the position when backfilling withlean concrete. Compact with care!

The foil must not be fitted until the steps have been alignedprecisely and backfilled with lean concrete right up to the top.The concrete must have set so that the weight of the water willnot deform the steps. The upper edge of the steps will be covered with edge stones and therefore has just an unpolishedsurface or is finished with open-pored polyester matting.

o Important: The water table must be lower than the pool base plate!

Polyester steps "SCALA" are also available with integrated jetstream and massage nozzles on request

Preparations for fitting the swimming pool foil

(for Roman steps):

Before fitting the foil, take a wooden lath and spr ead it across the Roman steps.

Screw a long suspension profile to the bottom of the wooden lath.

Now install the foil in the pool as if ther e were no steps (see Fitting the foil). After laying out the foil in the pool andletting in approx. 30 cm water, screw the foil to the f lange.Once the foil is f langed to the steps, take a sharp knife; cut outthe surplus foil within the steps and r emove the wooden lath.

Fastening the special profiles

Before fitting the foil inner cover, fasten the suspension profileto the upper U-profile. Use the tapping screws to fit the profilebars and the four quadrants (screws spaced at intervals ofapprox. 30 cm).

Fitting the swimming pool foil

It is extremely important to clean the bottom of the pool thor-oughly, preferably with a vacuum cleaner.

The bottom of the pool must be lined with f leece to protect thefoil. The walls of the pool can also be lined with f leece so thatthe joins between the individual segments cannot be seen(another advantage: the walls are soft and pleasant).

The fleece is only fastened to the walls in places. Another and less expensive possibility for concealing the seg-ment joins is to cover them with special adhesive tape (includ-ed in the scope of supply).

The ends of the pool are rounded off with the four suppliedpolyethylene foam profiles (1.5 m long) which are adhered inthe four corners.

The pool inner cover should be fitted at an outside temperature of min. 12°C and max. 25°C and not indirect, too bright sunshine.

o Important: Use corresponding quadrantsfor the four corners of thepool (included in the scope of supply).

Low temperatures makes the foil stiff so that it is difficult toinstall, and high temperatures distort the foil. It is advisable to wait until after the heat of the afternoon.

Spread the foil package out over the f loor of the pool. The four corners are marked with arrows on the upperedge of the foil. Make sure that the weld seams alwaysrun parallel to the floor/wall corner and that all four poolsides have the same distance to the f loor/wall corner.

Push the piping into the suspension profile as shown in thedrawing. Make sure that the pool foil lies firmly on the f looracross the whole surface; also make sure that there is no pleating.

Stubborn pleats can be eliminated barefoot in the pool by letting approx. 2 cm of water into the pool. Before filling with water, it is advisable to spray the foil withAgicid as effective algae prevention.

Once the foil has been aligned precisely and smoothed outcompletely, the floor drain is flanged in position.

It is not possible to completely rule out slight ripples forming in the pool inner lining, but these ar e not detrimental to theimperviousness and durability of the foil.

If you want to line your pool with fabric-r einforced foil, pleasearrange for a company of experienced technicians to pr oceedwith corresponding installation. The fittings are then flangedand connected to the piping. Please always use the encloseddouble seals for the skimmers, spots and counter -current system (corrosion protection at the cut surfaces).

Filling with water and backfilling the

SUNSTAR® pool

The SUNSTAR® pool does not necessarily have to be backfilledwith concrete. It can be backfilled with the earth excavated forthe pool. The earth must be compacted like gr own soil. Pleasenote that pool should be backfilled at the same time as wateris being let into the pool.

o Note: The level of the water in the pool should always be slightlyhigher than the backfilling level.

However, backfilling with lean concrete can still be advisablefor various reasons:1. Lean concrete backfilling prevents any later subsidence

of edge stones and tiles.2. Backfilling the SUNSTAR® pool with an insulating lean

concrete reduces possible heat losses. This is an advantage e.g. for indoor pools.

3. If lean concrete is not used for backfilling, it is very important to use the brackets for the reinforcing bars (see Installation of the brackets).

To prevent subsidence of the edge stones that you place on theedge of the pool, before backfilling the pool, use the suppliedbrackets provided for the reinforcing bars. In this way, you cancast a concrete ring around the pool to give the pool edgestones a firm base.

SUNSTAR ® pool with overflow channelInstallation of the SUNSTAR® pool with overflow channel

The installation procedure for the SUNSTAR® pool withoverflow channel is the same as for the SUNS TAR® poolwithout overflow channel, up to fitting the channel segments.

After erecting the wall segments, the channel parts ar e mounted on top of the wall segments, aligned with a laserlevel and then fixed with rivets from the inside of the pool. The ducts from the channel are included in the scope of supply.

The duct can be used by the customer to connect the overf lowchannel to the collecting pipe. The pool including overf lowchannel must be lined by the customer with fabric-r einforcedfoil 1.5 m thick.

The complete filter and channel tank systems can be found in our general catalogue. Step systems on request.
