One of the foundational ways it will be different is that we have a new District Superin- tendent. Rev. Having been the co-pastor at First UMC Ocala since 2008, she has a background with the North Central District. She has relationships with many of the clergy and she has experience working to fill some of the unmet needs of this community. If you have had the opportunity to hear her speak, you know she has a vision and one aspect of that vision is for each congregation to do all they can to reach out to the communities surrounding their church. That makes me excited! That is church. We are to be the Kingdom builders that are constantly reaching out to our neighbors, sharing the love of Christ with them. We are not to simply cater to our own needs, but be the vessels whereby God can care for those that do not know him or have forgotten about him. I get goose bumps just thinking about the relationships that can be built, the lives that can be changed, and the hope that can be shared. I am also excited about all of the new people we have as part of our family. So many new faces joined us in our walk during 2013. In fact, we brought 10 peo- ple into membership this year and we had a baptism! With new family members come new spiritual gifts, new interests, and more wisdom; all of which will deepen our impact in this community and strengthen our ministries. This year also means something else. It is another year we have to strengthen our bonds together. It is another year of life we can live together, another year of partnership to build trust amongst each other, and another year where the love of Christ can draw us closer together. Greetings Sisters and Brothers!

I am excited! I am excited about what 2014 will mean for Druid Hills United Methodist! There is so much we can do; so many that we can serve. There are numerous possibilities and my mind is just racing! This time of year is always filled with anticipation. It is about new life, a new year, a new opportunity to better ourselves, our health, and our faith journey. With so many days ahead of us in 2014, the sky is the limit.

This year will be different in several ways for us as a

congregation. One of the foundational ways it will

be different is that we have a new District Superin-

tendent. Rev. Sue Haupert-Johnson is in the middle

of her first year as our DS and I am very excited

about that. Having been the co-pastor at First UMC

Ocala since 2008, she has a background with the

North Central District. She has relationships with

many of the clergy and she has experience working

to fill some of the unmet needs of this community. If

you have had the opportunity to hear her speak, you

know she has a vision and one aspect of that vision is for each congregation to

do all they can to reach out to the communities surrounding their church. That

makes me excited! That is church. We are to be the Kingdom builders that are

constantly reaching out to our neighbors, sharing the love of Christ with them.

We are not to simply cater to our own needs, but be the vessels whereby God

can care for those that do not know him or have forgotten about him. I get

goose bumps just thinking about the relationships that can be built, the lives

that can be changed, and the hope that can be shared.

I am also excited about all of the new people we have as part of our family. So

many new faces joined us in our walk during 2013. In fact, we brought 10 peo-

ple into membership this year and we had a baptism! With new family members

come new spiritual gifts, new interests, and more wisdom; all of which will

deepen our impact in this community and strengthen our ministries.

This year also means something else. It is another year we have to strengthen

our bonds together. It is another year of life we can live together, another year

of partnership to build trust amongst each other, and another year where the

love of Christ can draw us closer together.

Prayer serves as the backbone of the church. It is what supports all our efforts of ministry. In that spirit, you are invited to hold these persons in your prayers and thoughts. Just as the Spirit needs healing, so does the body. The two, it seems, go together in God’s plan.

FROM THE HEART - UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

We would like to thank everyone who came to our Advent Breakfast on Sat., Dec. 7. A delicious break-fast was served by our ladies. A special thank you to the ladies who decorated and set-up Fellowship Hall. Our program, lead by Libby and the “actors”, Kathy Bailey, Betty Erickson, Jenny Hosey and

Marge Grieves, was titled “Christmas Angel”. Luann Bainbridge played the piano for carol singing, Melva Sanon sang a solo & Marge Grieves said grace and the closing prayer. Thank you to all who participated.

Our group has been busy making 206 visits to shut-ins. We continue to pray for others who need our prayers. Our activities included, a field trip to Sisterhood/Brotherhood in October, Ministry Fair in Feb., Metro Crime Prevention program in May, annual luncheon at Red Lobster in June, District meetings, mission to help Salva-tion Army and Domestic Violence donations, visit Ocala Health & Rehab, serving Fellowship luncheon on the fourth Sunday, birthday and/or anniversary wishes, various programs at our meetings, Christmas Child Shoe-boxes, exchange Prayer Partners in Dec and our annual Advent Breakfast. These are just some of the things we do, “From the Heart”.

The next meeting of the UMW is Tuesday, January 21 at 10 am in Fellowship Hall. UMW meetings are open to all ladies of the Church.

FROM THE PASTOR (continued from page 1)

I am excited about 2014 and all that God will do through us. Therefore, I am asking that each of you join me

in prayer as we ask God to enlarge our territory, to show us ways we can reach out, and to show us the oppor-

tunities where we can be involved. With all of us working together, 2014 can be a banner year for the King-

dom of God!

Happy New Year!

THANK YOU

On behalf of my daughter, Missi, I would like to thank you for your prayers, love and support during her re-cent health crisis. As you know, the biopsy showed no cancer cells! God is good! She is currently waiting for a treatment plan for her Sarcoidosis. Carole Newlin

THANK YOU

The Memorial Committee would like to thank Lucy and Bob Williams for the donation of two beautiful plant stands in memory of Lucy’s mother DeNease Hicks. The plant stands will be used for the Christmas poinsettias and periodically throughout the year. We truly appreciate their beautiful gift.

FROM THE KITCHEN COMMITTEE

Did you know that the food, drinks and all supplies for Fellowship Time on Sunday is provided by members, family and friends of DHUMC? Over the past several years, we have not had to rely on the budget to provide these items. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions about what supplies are needed, the list is printed in the bulletin the last Sunday of the month or you can call the Church Office at 629-5688.
