Hi Everybody, It was an unreal, awesome experience being a Baton Bearer for the Queen’s Baton Relay. My section was at Golden Beach, Caloundra. Lachlan Smart handed the baton to me. Lachlan is the youngest person to fly solo around the world. I passed the Baton to Leonard Thompson, who is a Vietnam Veteran. It was heaps of fun on the bus dropping Baton Bearers off at the starting points. We all got to explain to the others, why we had been nominated and selected. The stories were all fantastic and incredible. The spirit on the bus was amazing. When it was your turn, you walked to the end of the bus and back high fiving all the other Baton Bearers. Everybody was shouting, Baton Bearer, Baton Bearer yeh, yeh, yeh. After our walk/ jog with the Baton, we were picked up by a second bus. We all chatted about our amazing experiences. We finished at Golden Beach State School, where we had met for briefing before the Relay. The kids were so excited and thrilled to meet us and see the Baton. Hi Everybody,

It was an unreal, awesome experience being a Baton Bearer for the Queen’s Baton Relay. My

section was at Golden Beach, Caloundra. Lachlan Smart handed the baton to me. Lachlan is

the youngest person to fly solo around the world. I passed the Baton to Leonard Thompson,

who is a Vietnam Veteran.

It was heaps of fun on the bus dropping Baton Bearers off at the starting points. We all got to

explain to the others, why we had been nominated and selected. The stories were all fantastic

and incredible. The spirit on the bus was amazing. When it was your turn, you walked to the

end of the bus and back high fiving all the other Baton Bearers. Everybody was shouting,

Baton Bearer, Baton Bearer yeh, yeh, yeh.

After our walk/ jog with the Baton, we were picked up by a second bus. We all chatted about

our amazing experiences. We finished at Golden Beach State School, where we had met for

briefing before the Relay. The kids were so excited and thrilled to meet us and see the Baton.

Unfortunately, it all happened very quickly. It was great to catch up with Derek and some

friends after the Relay at Dicky Beach Surf Club for lunch and a chat.

It was such an amazing and brilliant experience and privilege to be nominated and then

selected as a Baton Bearer. I realise, that hundreds of other very worthy people missed out.

Cheers

Wendy Coghill
