SUNSHINE CENTER A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR ACTIVE ADULTS
Veda Roubideaux
Volunteer of the Quarter
We are proud to announce that
Veda Roubideaux is our Volunteer
of the Quarter for April, May and
June. Veda participates as much as
she volunteers at the Sunshine
Center. She may be found partici-
pating in our Arthritis Class, Zoom-
ing to the Oldies or Caribbean Aer-
obics. In addition, she volunteers
in the Fitness Center on Tuesday
afternoons. Veda helps out in a
variety of other areas as well, such
as holiday meal serving and special
event preparations. We know we
can count on Veda to advocate for
the Sunshine Center when she’s
out and about, too. Veda has all the
best traits we can ask for in a vol-
unteer: punctual, dependable,
cheerful and willing! Please cele-
brate her service with us as she
is appointed the Volunteer of the
Quarter!!!

Laugh for the Day
A Thorny Subject
Our 8-year-old granddaughter Raven, a city girl,
asked to help me cook. “Get some potatoes out of
that red basket,” I said. The potatoes were starting
to sprout but were still usable. She hurried over to
the basket but didn’t come back. I looked that way
and saw that she was just standing there. “Raven, are
you going to get those potatoes?” I asked. Looking a
bit bewildered, she replied, “Grandma, did you know
your potatoes have thorns?”
Quill Question
A grandpa told his grandson that ballpoint pens hadn’t
yet been invented when he was a boy. “Was that
back when they used feathers?” the child asked.
Golden Years
At his birthday party, my grandson said, “I love you,”
and I replied, “I love you, too.” Then he said , “I wish
you were 5 years old like me so you would be around
longer.”
Return to Sender
I was picking up my letters at the post office when I
heard a boy ask his mother if they had gotten any
mail. She said, “Nope, just bills.” Then he asked,
“Why do we always get his mail?”
Teach the Teacher
Years ago, my dad started first grade in a one-room
country school. When he returned home after that
first day of class, his mother asked him if he liked it.
Dad answered, “I don’t see any reason to go back to
that school, because the teacher had to ask me how
to spell cat.”

FRIENDS OF THE SUNSHINE CENTER
The Friends of the Sunshine Center, Inc., is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Friends of the Sunshine Center,
Inc., is the financial support arm for the Sunshine Center. As the Board of Directors, we host events to raise
money for improvements to the Sunshine Center, and we sponsor special event meals.
We have provided funds to furnish the Exercise Room with a wooden floor and wall mirror, reupholstered the
furniture in the Banyan Room, helped sponsor Valentine’s Day luncheons and paid for new ovens in the Sunset
Avenue Café. In August of 2012, we purchased a new refrigerator for the Ballroom and installed new flooring
for the entire Banyan Room!
We are seeking members. We need volunteers who think ahead, have good and positive ideas and who will par-
ticipate in sponsored events from the planning stage to helping on the day of the event. If interested, turn in a
résumé to Sally Marvin, or for more information, call the Friends at 727-821-2323.
